Diary Of A Young Girl Anne Frank Essay

Anne Frank's personal piece of writing, “Diary of A Young Girl” tells the story of a young girl transitioning to womanhood during the second world war. Along her journey, she uses her diary as a tool for getting rid of her emotional and mental stress. She faces the challenges of becoming a young adult with fellow residents at the Secret Annex, including her sister Margot. Like most girls, her relationship with her sister is bitter - full of conflict and eventually some understanding. Anne deals with her relationship with Margot by writing diary entries because she wants to vent her feelings of frustration, admiration, and jealousy. To begin with, Anne has a frustrating relationship with her sister which she speaks of in her diary entries. Like most girls her age, Anne is fairly moody and is immature due to her minimal tolerance of Margot. She writes

She's jealous of Margot's personality and her overall genuine brilliance. In particular, Anne writes that she “always used to be jealous of Margot's relationship with Father” (92). Margot's good relationship with both her parents is something Anne envies and accuses of her being a goody-two-shoes. Anne is also fed up of being the victim every time there is a problem. She states that her parents “never scold Margot and always blame [her] for everything” (35). Anne always ends up being the one in trouble, and Margot's cleverness lets her escape the consequences. And because Anne always gets in trouble, her relationship with her parents is not as great as her sister's. Furthermore, Anne always struggles to be better than Margot. She says that she does not “have to be afraid of rivals (except Margot)” (104). Everytime Anne attempts to be a good person, she feels that Margot's perfection overpowers hers.
