The mental illness that I have chosen is Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disease that slowly destroys how you think and your memory. This disease makes it hard to carry out the normal daily functions. Alzheimer’s typically appears in people age 65 and older. This disease causes tangles in the brain and is two of the most important features of Alzheimer’s. The next leading cause is the loss of connections that connect the neurons in the brain. There is treatment for the stabilization of patients, but there is no cure. “One in nine people age 65 and older have Alzheimer’s disease. This equals to about 11 percent of people. About one-third of people 85 and older have this disease. This is equal to about 32 percent of the total population. This disease is more common in women than it is in men. Allie and her husband Noah write down everything that has happened in their life. When Allie begins to go down hill with the Alzheimer’s disease, Noah begins to read her their story. Noah goes to the nursing home that Allie lives in every day. Everyday he reads to her about an event that happened in their life. Noah loves spending time with her, even if she has no idea who he is. Sometimes Allie will not recognize Noah and she will begin to freak out, but the nurses comfort her, and usually Noah is able to talk to her. One time in the movie it is required that Allie be sedated, because she cannot handle the fact that she is not normal, and she does not know who Noah is, where she is, or what is going to with her. By the end of the movie Allie does not even know who anyone is. Allie and Noah end up living in the same nursing home. Before they die, Allie remembers who he is, and they spend their last living night together. Allie and Noah eventually die together at the same time in the nursing
