What is something you feel so passionate about that you want to dream about doing it one day? One thing that I hope to do in the future that I dream about is to make wreckless cars! If I really set my mind to making wreckless cars I think that someday I might accomplish my dream because I believe in myself. A wreckless car is, say that you are a really bad driver and you get in wrecks all the time and you can’t afford to pay for any more cars. Contemporary literature is the sharing of timeless truths that still hold relevance in our current society in a current manner. There is a saying “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the Sun.” (Ecclesiastes 1:9, n.d.). What the saying means is that anything we experience now has already been experienced and to believe that you have a fresh new idea, way of thinking, activity or anything than you are mistaken. Everything that can be thought of already has been. The story that I read during this session that reminds of this and has helped shape my view on contemporary literature is “Car Crash While Hitchhiking”, it was written by Denis Johnson. Now anytime I see a car accident on the road or read about one in the newspaper, I cannot help but wonder what would have happened if my mom hadn't been able to steer the car out of the oncoming traffic after our accident. We were lucky. We survived. But people are not always lucky and that is why we need driverless cars. Because they will make driving quicker, more efficient, and most importantly, significantly safer. Auto Wreck is an ominous, grim, and disturbing poem written by Karl Shapiro about death, fate, coincidence and the envisioning of reality. In this harsh poem Shapiro describes an awful car accident where many people ends up dead. He flawlessly employes a unique imagery and language that gives the reader a clear and true sensation of the terrible mishap. The author makes us feel as if we had seen and even experienced the car collision ourselves. Although it may see that the main focus in this poem is death, which is one of the most important, the poet also throws in the way he and everyone else saw everything after the accident, how their emotions changed, and how they envisioned reality afterward. Shapiro not only acknowledges and makes vivid the deaths that just occurred and how different people reacted to it, but he also discusses how much of an accident it really was, how someone had to be guilty and if anyone was really innocent at all.
My biggest dream of all is to be remembered. I want to touch people in such a way that they will never forget who I am. I want them to tell their grandchildren stories about me and for them to tell their grandchildren and so on. That way, I’ll still be alive years after I actually die. However, this will be very difficult.
So think about it, do you have a dream? It does not matter how big or how small. Whether it is as small as getting an A on the test in your next period or becoming a doctor it is still your dream. Your dream is obtainable. As Brian Littrell once said, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” Keep that sound track on the side of you so it will help you get through huge obstacles in life. James Q. Wilson the author of the article "Cars and Their Enemies" briefly ponders the possibility of our world without personal automobiles. He speculates whether our current society would welcome the invention of the personal automobile into a fictitious world without cars. Wilson immediately answers no. Wilson knows, as many well-informed individuals and experts do, that the personal automobile is responsible for contributing to pollution, destruction of rural and wilderness land, and depletion of natural resources. And an advanced society such as we live in today would not likely choose to burden our health, land, and resources for the sake of luxury and convenience, or at the very least, the personal automobile would not be as accessible as it is today. Because, in all reality, our current society does embrace inventions that compromise our society's well-being such as oil and chemical refineries, pesticides, and even convenience foods such as fast food and many refined prepackaged foods. Wilson's opinions in his article, "Cars and Their Enemies" and discussions I have had on-line in the 305 class about Wilson's article have demonstrated to me that the personal automobile is an example of how many people are unwilling to acknowledge how personal convenience and luxury contribute to the deterioration of our world.
My dream career would be: Becoming a nurse. Nurses help people in many different ways. They work at a fast, but focused pace; work side by side with Doctors and surgeons. Nursing has been a dream of mine for many years. There are many different kinds of nurses. The nurse I would strictly want to become is a nurse specialized in geriatrics, taking care of people with dementia. To work in this field you have to have an understanding of what is all involved. Cars are the ultimate symbol of independence and individualism. They offer more than freedom. No other man made creation but car fulfills a man’s ego. Technology has been the evidence of how cars have evolved for about more than a century now. From a first car packing a single cylinder 958cc, 0.75hp engine to today’s most powerful 8000cc W16, 1300bhp Veyron. We live in such an engineering savvy era where even an increase of few grams in a vehicle’s weight means going back to the drawing board to get unerring dynamic performance. And for these exuberant reasons, mechanical engineering was a mere choice rather than a chance for me.
