In today’s world college is worth the cost but there are times when college isn’t worth the cost for many student’s thinking about college. Many college graduates come out of school with a major and many loans that are needed to pay back. With the major they try to look for a job and then to find out that there isn’t any job openings for that major. Then the people that do have a major are most likely to make more money than someone without a major. It also has to do with if the family is able to afford the cost of a nice college that there kid is trying to go to. Than everyone has to also looks at the other side of the story because not many families are able to pay for their children to go to college, so many college loans are having to be taken out in order for them to focus on their major that they are wanting to study. Also people that are just coming out of high school just really don’t feeling like going back to school for at least another 4 years if not more. The American Dream. The ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. This ideology that anybody, regardless of race, gender, or social status, is able to work up the ladder and achieve success. However, the process to receive and live in this prosperity in today’s world has been greatly flawed. A key element to having a true chance of the American Dream is getting an education that goes beyond a high school degree. Yet, even this seemingly simple step in the process is difficult to achieve for many for countless reasons, however, college tuition is the prime cause for this setback. Even though there are people who believe that a college admission is fair to all, I firmly disagree, as countless people cannot pay for higher education, and, therefore, are not given an equal chance to live a moment of the American Dream.
Many students are faced with decision once they are about to graduate from high school. That decision is, “Is a college degree really worth it and is going to college what’s best for me?”. Looking back when I was graduating high school this was a tough decision for me and one that I regret making. A lot of the time you are about to graduate high school and you don’t know what you are going to do with the rest of your life and that makes going to school that much harder of a choice.
For the past few months I have been attending college as a first year, but recently I have started to ask myself is college really worth it? Or is there a better alternative other than going on the traditional path to college? Furthermore if there are alternative path instead of attending college, why aren’t we taking them? In many situations we do have the option of acquiring special licenses and certifications that can get us the careers we desire, but without the need to attend college, but if we can do things like getting licenses and certificates then why do most of us choose to go to college knowing that there is a better option? Even more, a better option that will probably not cost you as much in the long run. Yet millions upon millions of students make the choice of going to college every year, for this I ask why?
Those who say college is not worth the cost, say that if given specialized education in high school, there should be no rush to attend college; rather, they could start with a higher-paying job right after high school graduation. (Source A) They believe if high schools had a more focused purpose on specialized types of education, the decision to attend college wouldn’t be as stressful. Furthermore, some feel that they regret their career choices made in college, due to the pressure to be successful as soon as possible. (Source E) Many feel rushed once they get into college to make one choice and stay with it throughout their educational years.
