The Religions of the World
There is an endless amount of varying religions amongst the people of the world; however, many people do not take the time to learn about religions in which they do not participate. Because of this, many misconceptions and stereotypes begin to circulate concerning various religions. Of the plethora of religions practiced in the world today, there are a select few that have a significantly high following. The three most practiced general religions are Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism.
First, the most popular religion in the world is Christianity, which has a following of around 2.1 billion people. Christian beliefs are based on the gospel that was preached by Jesus Christ, the son of God. In this religion, the personal gods that are worshipped by the practicing members can be linked together under the name of the Holy Trinity. Hinduism does not have a single founder or source, but the main focus of the religion is that God is present in all things. The personal gods that are worshipped in Hinduism are also called the Trinity. However, this trinity is made up of Shiva, the destroyer/transformer; Vishnu, the sustainer; and Brahma, the creator. Hindus follow and practice many different scriptures, the most popular being the Vedas. Much like the pillars of Islam, within Hinduism there are four goals: dharma, performance of duty; artha, pursuit of prosperity; kama, the pursuit of pleasure; and moksha, the pursuit of enlightenment. Along with these four goals, Hindus believe that a lot of problems can be solved through yoga. Hindus perform four main types of yoga: karma yoga, the path of action of selfless service; bhakti yoga, the path of devotion; jnana yoga, the path of knowledge; and raja yoga, the path of
