A quality Beowulf and Wonder Woman both possess is unselfishness. Beowulf shows his unselfishness by thinking of his people of Geatland when he sees the dragon’s priceless hoard of jewels and gold. His unselfishness is shown when the poet says, “Beowulf, thinking of his people, asks to see the monster's treasure. The Role of Women in Greek Mythology In learning about the feminist movement, we studied the three articles, discussed and reviewed the different authors perspectives on the topic, and learned how important the role of woman in Greek mythology is. In presenting the feminist theory to the class, we analyzed the three articles, Women in Ancient Greece; Women in Antiquity: New Assessments; and Women in Greek Myth, and discussed how although the three articles provided different views on Feminism in mythology, they all essentially are aiming to teach the same basic concept. In order to understand the feminist theory, we have to understand the notion that although myths are invented and that they involve fantasy, the concept of mythology does not necessarily imply that there is no truth of history in them. Some of the humans may have lived while some of the events may have taken place. Most importantly, the social customs and the way of life depicted in the myths are a valuable representation of Greek society.
In the article “Wonder Woman” Gloria Steinem expresses that the making of female super-heroes empowers females by reducing the fixed theme of a Caucasian male saving an inferior female. Many writers and artists can use Wonder Woman’s history as a blueprint for what works, and also what doesn’t. Wonder Woman continues to mirror the complexities of feminism: strong and assertive, yet caring and nurturing. All the while balancing family issues and fighting against stereotypes. Wonder Woman is the most famous heroine and the reason behind this statement is that she is the most displayed character in media compared to other heroines. For this reason, it is easier for girls to imitate Wonder Woman and by doing so they are obtaining some of her qualities from her persona. Jessica Jones Review: Netflix's Latest Marvel Show After the success of Daredevil, Marvel wanted to do a series that could surpass its success, so they created Jessica Jones. In this article, I intend to do a very brief review about Jessica Jones. It is relevant to tell you that this series has a very good rating in Rotten Tomatoes: actually, it is 8.16, a very good rating, right? Ok, let’s talk a little about the series itself. This was released on Netflix only and was created by Melissa Rosenberg, the same writer behind Dexter, and it was based on the Marvel Comics’ Jessica Jones.
Not long after that, I discovered the Amazonian Princess Diana, better known as Wonder Woman, and I was once again captivated. My adoration of Greek mythology and the Amazons is certainly rooted in these experience when I was younger. So when we were tasked with finding mythology in contemporary society, I couldn’t help myself from revisiting this concept.
Things only get more complicated when you consider the frame narrative that explains Wonder Woman’s existence. She was born as Princess Diana (interestingly paralleling another icon of womanhood) in an Amazon community that seems pretty clearly grounded in lesbianism. Although the women in this harmonious and idyllic Amazon community have gone to great lengths to hide and protect their island from incursions by men, they are nonetheless delighted when a male American army officer inadvertently crash-lands in their utopia. So smitten with him are they, in fact, that they stage a ruthless physical competition to decide who will get to pair off with him. When Diana (later Wonder Woman) wins, she happily abandons her position as a royal ruler of the Amazons to accompany him back to the United States and take a boring desk job as a lowly secretary in the army.
