In George Orwell’s novel, Animal Farm, the windmill is symbolic of and represents many things. The windmill is symbolic of the different mentalities of the two leaders of animals farm, it is can be portrayed as a role of politics, and it is represents the animal's independence. The windmill symbolizes the power and control that the pigs had over the other animals on the farm. The two pigs that control the farm make the other animals build the windmill for new technology to help the animals live and strive on the farm, and make life for them easier. “...which could be made to operate a dynamo and supply the farm with electrical power” (Orwell 480). Snowball, who is the original inventor of the windmill, wanted it to ease the workload off of the animal’s shoulders. However, Napoleon, uses the windmill as support from the animals, this helps him establish his dictator persona. “But of all their controversies, none was so bitter as the one that took place over the windmill” (Orwell 48).
