Drugs are a big problem in today's society, and one question everyone asks are should some drugs be legal while others are illegal. Dictionary of legal terms states that “drugs are chemicals that have a dramatic effect upon a living organism by altering one or more body organs”. A Lot of drugs are used to help people. Most drugs are considered medication that is prescribed by the doctor to ease pain or kill a virus. Other drugs are recreational and generally used for a high and fun. Any drug that is legal besides alcohol are drugs used in the medical field while most drugs illegal are just recreational drugs. People argue that the legal drugs are helpful not harmful and that is why they are legal. While that statement is not fully false some drugs can become addicting and yes, they may have been helpful but the more addicting they become more harmful. Many people have been pushing to legalize more drugs that are beneficial, but the argue is more people use the drugs for recreational uses. Even some legal drugs can be used for recreational uses if used the wrong way and not used for what it was prescribed for. One illegal drug that is helpful that people are fighting to make legal is marijuana. Marijuana is a drug made from a plant called Cannabis sativa. (drugabuse.gov) The drug is usually smoked but can be mixed into tea and other brews. Marijuana can be used as a recreational drug but is also used for medical purposes. Some people use the illegal drug to cope with chemo. Chemo is a treatment most cancer patients receive after being diagnosed and treated by surgery. Most people use this drug to ease the pain that the legal prescribed drugs can not help. Some medical things people use marijuana for are muscle spasms, chronic illness like HIV or nerve pain, seizure disorders and crohn’s disease.
