Why We Should Be Banned From The Classroom

Dear Secretary of the University Senate I have received your email inviting me to share my view on the proposal. After much research and debate I have come to a conclusion. My stance on this proposal is that all electronic devices should be banned from the classroom except when such devices are needed to carry out an academic exercise related to the classroom. Students using extrinsic devices during class is disruptive to other students in the class. These such actions show disrespect to the instructor of the course. All this can lead to students to performing more poorly on quizzes and exams. If a student is in a lecture and he or she is on their electronic device they are more likely to not remember more than half of the material being taught in the lecture. This is because they are either attempting to multitask or just completely disregarding what's going on. Science shows that humans cannot multitask, but simply alternate …show more content…

If they can't remember the material because they were on their phone than they can't pass their exams. Only paying attention half of the time in class can result in this. Studies have shown that electronic devices being regulated and applied in the class room for related purposes is a positive, but when students start to get off track and wonder off into the phones that's when performance suffers. Having these devices in classroom will lead to students getting distracted. They can also be disruptive to the other students as well. A student id trying to pay attention in class and all of a sudden he or she cannot because they are being distracted by the person next to them. This can happen in mammy ways, like the table shacking because of the vibration of someone's phone, or the loud sounds that come from these electronics. These devices can become a cancer in the classroom if not regulated
