Why Technology Should Not Replace Textbooks

Technology has replacing a lot of things but should it replace textbooks? This is about why technology should not replace textbooks. Technology should not replace textbooks because of the technological problems, cost, and health issues.

The first reason technology should not replace textbooks because of the technological problems. Textbooks are superior to technology in terms of flaws and problems, they do not run on battery which needs to be charged almost everyday, they do not crash, they do not freeze, they do not lag, and they do not run on WiFi, so if you do not have the proper quality WiFi your textbook will take time to load. An elementary school textbook costs an average of $70-$300 which is much cheaper than $700-$1000 technological device. Textbooks do not use any accessories such as chargers which can add an average of a $25 to $50. Technological devices such as iPads can break very easily which means they will need a case, this adds $20-$100 and if the technological device breaks, repairing it will also cost with an average of $130-$300. After you have paid for everything you then have a useless combination of plastic and metal. To make your device useful you will need to buy a Wi-Fi plan which will give you access to the internet which then will give you access to all your online information for you to do whatever you need to. Technology, after being used too often or too long can cause many health issues, the most common one being eye strain, this happens because when we use technology for a long period of time we often forget to blink and the tears that protect your eyes evaporate without being replaced which then lets the bright light shine in to your eyes. Research has shown that we actually blink ten times less than normal when we use technology. Headaches are also very common often being the case after eye strains happen, the strength of the headache depends on how long you were on the device and what level of brightness the device was on. Textbooks do not have this bright light and do not cause too much distraction to the user. Sleep problems also play a role in the health effects of technology. Technology lowers the quality of sleep and can shorten the time you sleep, so when you wake up and feel tired it is probably because of the technology. The last big issue that comes with using technology over textbooks is the loss of vision or becoming nearsighted also known as being myopic. This is caused when the bright lights of the screen hit your eyes and damages the eyes. When the eyes are damaged your vision range is lowered which then you might need to buy glasses/lens. This can be all prevented if stop replacing textbooks with technology so that kids will not be on devices longer than they already
