Imagine a world where the majority of the population values morals and treats others with respect. Wouldn’t that be great? A multitude of our daily conflicts would be solved, the world would be a more enjoyable place. Character and morals are a vital part of a student’s life and need to be further valued in schools around the world. Students are faced with many challenges and conflicts on a daily basis and could benefit from the reinforcement of the knowledge of right and wrong and good character. Whether it is a conflict between students or between a student and an adult, classes that focus on morals and good character would help students make better decisions in these tough situations. Students are growing up not knowing the difference between right and wrong. Today, the majority of students spend a large percentage of their time using technology and in many cases this could negatively affect them because of the inappropriate and explicit content they see. For example, today children learn swear words early on because of the explicit content they are hearing in these songs or videos. If students take classes on morals and character, the classes will provide students with a solid foundation of knowing right from wrong. These classes will enable students to make better decisions in the present and in the future. When students are taught good morals and character in school, they will form healthy relationships both in and out of school. With the help of these classes, students will learn good morals and will become benefactors in our society, and unfeigned leaders, later on in life. Friendships often develop when common interests are shared. It’s not likely that a student of good character would become friends with a virulent student with bad morals. Whether students are at lunch, talking in the halls, or hanging out on the weekends these positive social experiences help students to learn good morals and respect. However, this counterclaim is invalid because students are interacting less face to face because of technology and social media. Morals are not always taken into account when students are not face to face with the person they are interacting with, this has caused more negative interactions. Especially if a student gets in an argument with one of their friends, they are more likely to confront them over social media where they do not have to interact face to face. Students are extremely impressionable and it is easy for them to make bad decisions just to fit in or be accepted when they are talking through a screen.
