Soccer has been around for over 3000 years. It is unknown where it started because it can be connected to several ancient civilizations which explains how it became so wide spread. It developed into what it is today in the mid-1800 in England. Even with its widespread popularity many still dislike soccer, particularly in the US. Regardless of its unpopularity, soccer is still the best sport in the world.
Many soccer critics have only a few reasons as to why they dislike the sport. The primary arguement and the basis for all their other points is that it is boring. The fact that soccer appears boring to most is because there is little scoring. It seems most of the time the players are running back and forth on the field with little progress. This feels even less productive since soccer is longer than most other timed sports. It is 90 minutes in length rather than 60 like in football, basketball, and hockey. Some games will actually be 120 as a result of overtime which makes it one of the longests sports with only one break and minimal player substitutions. There are many reasons why it is beloved by so many including it doesn’t cost much to play. All that is needed to play is ball. Many others will spend on shin gaurds and specail clothes; however, the costs are still low when compared to football and baseball. Not only are the costs low, but it can be played anywhere with only a ball by any one. Soccer is one of the gender neutral sports with women’s soccer bringing in more revenue than men’s in some games. The universal ability to be played by anyone, anywhere regardless of gender or class is just one reason it’s beloved by so
