Homosexuals are the same as anyone else in the world and offer just as much to the upbringing of a child. Just because a person lives a different way than other people does not mean they should have their rights taken from them. Gender nor sexuality has nothing to do with weather you are a good parent or not. Many homosexual people are great parents, same as many heterosexual people. Same-sex couples function like opposite-sex couples. Even if both parents are the same sex one can function like the father figure and one can function like the mother figure. The second paragraph of the Declaration maps out Jefferson's beliefs on the equality of man and the natural rights we should all have endowed. He holds that, "it is self evident that all men are created equal," and that each man has certain natural rights to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." He goes on to say that the role of the government, after being instituted, is to support and secure these rights for all the citizens. If, however, the government is not providing the security that the citizens feel they need, Jefferson claims that they as a collective have the right to overthrow the existing government and create a new one that is founded on these principles of natural rights and equality. Discrimintaion and equality in society is faced amongst people every day. One certain subject that seems to get most of this attention is whether or not homosexual couples should be able to adopt. Same sex couples should be able to adopt children for many reasons. Children that are raised by same sex parents are predominantly taught to be more open minded, have a greater sense of tolerance, and are thought of to be role models for equality in relationships and life. Most would say that these children will face issues regarding their parents sexual orientation, but this is not so. Children of same sex parents have studied to show very few differences in achievement, mental health, and social function as a child that is raised in a heterosexual household. Being homosexual does not make you a bad parent. Anyone who is willing to take on their responsibilities as a good and loving parent makes a great mom or dad. So, asking if gays and lesbians make good parents is just like asking if white people make good parents, or jewish people make good parents. A person’s ability to be a good parent shouldn’t be based off of any of those things. It should be based on whether or not they will love, protect, support, care, or dedicate themselves to their child. If a person does these things, and then some, then why shouldn’t they be able to become parents?

Just like any other person their relationship with their children will mature, and will soon be able to have that love and caring affection, just like any other mother and father would provide to their children.
