Nowadays, the debate that cigarettes should be illegal and banned has become a popular topic. If they are banned, it will bring some negative problems and positive effects. What will happen if cigarettes are banned? Firstly, once smokers stop smoking immediately, their body will get a lot of bad conditions, especially for their digestive, respiratory, circulatory systems and cannot sleep well. Secondly, if smokers can’t stand anymore, they will find new way to instead of cigarettes and lead to more seriously problems. So it easy cause obesity, drug crimes and even smokers try to smuggle cigarettes and lead to black market. And then the government and related personnel will reduce the income. First, the government will reduce money on treat lung cancer. Most patients with lung cancer are caused due to smoking, the government will spend a lot of money on the treatment of lung cancer. “Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in both men and women in the United States. In 1987, it surpassed breast cancer to become the leading cause of cancer deaths in women. Lung cancer causes more deaths than colorectal, breast and prostate cancers combined. An estimated 158,040 Americans are expected to die from lung cancer in 2015, according for approximately 27 percent of all cancer deaths.”(Lauren, June 14, 2015). “The National Institutes of Health estimate that cancer care cost the United States an overall $124.6 billion in 2010, $12.1 billion of which is due to lung cancer. Lost productivity due to early death from cancer lead to an additional $134.8 billion in 2005, $36.1 billion of which was due to lung cancer.” (Suite, 2015) With banning cigarettes, people suffering from lung cancer. Cigarettes smoke on the spending money on treatment of lung cancer. It also can reduce harm to environment. “Cigarette manufacturing consumes scarce resources in growing, curing, rolling, flavoring, packaging, transport, advertising and legal defense, but also causes harms from massive pesticide use and deforestation. For example: many Manhattans of savannah woodlands are lost every year to obtain the charcoal used for flue curing. And cigarette makers have provided substantial funding and institutional support for global climate change deniers, causing further harm.
