The Turning Point Why is respect so important? This is a hard question to fully answer, but I know that it is an important aspect of our lives. Below are some provided ideas and examples of the impact it has. Respect gives us the feeling of authority. For example, to earn the respect of others, you treat them with a humble and helpful attitude, or with kindness. Ordinarily, this makes you feel good and happy you could help, or gives you a sense of pride. In the same way, you will most likely feel like you are in authority in that particular situation. People in my community are mostly respectful to one another. This is so important to know as a kid, because I need to know that my family and friends respect one another, because without it, nothing would be the same. If you are the one being asked for help in a tough situation, it also shows us that someone is there who is humble enough and willing to ask us for help when they are having a hard time. That should make us show respect to them, too. Respect can be a feeling, or an action. The way you treat someone, or the little things, like helping your friend clean up a spilled mess, or just sitting next to someone who is alone. Respect is often a combination of kindness and thoughtfulness. Another example is the way we should interact with people in authority, such as police officers, firefighters, medics, judges, elected officials, and other people who make decisions that we may not agree with.
