Paper has officially been replaced with iPads, students might like that idea but in reality it’s not going to turn out well. There are over million iPads that are being used in classrooms by students on a daily basis rather than using printed textbooks as main learning resources. School districts should not replace textbooks with IPads and other digital products. Some of the reasons include the reliability of textbooks, the increase of the chances to cheat, there’s distractions in the class room, and less memory redemption. Textbooks are reliable because anyone could have then and one could use it anywhere and anytime they want. An increase of percent students cheating due to the fact that students can easily avoid reading and analyzing texts …show more content…
Tablets enable students to cut corners or cheat on schoolwork. Students can easily avoid reading and analyzing texts on their own because they can quickly look up passages in an e-textbook and search for answers on the internet. By doing this the student doesn’t learn what the article was and didn’t analyzing the text. When the next day comes to class there is a little pop quiz on what the article was about and the student will get a low grade because he was lazy to read the story. This goes will all the subjects that are in school. Within a textbook the student could get a decent grade on the quiz if he read it. That giving students a device that can connect to the internet also gives them the ability to cheat. This a true statement that got with schools all over the nation. If students are using a pencil, book, and paper they will not have as much tendency to cheat. The only two ways one could cheat on assignments is if they pull out their phone without the professor seeing them and search for it or copy from another student. Technology may help students reach for a variety of information the fastest and easiest way possible to cheat and get done with it, but at the same time makes them inefficient without its …show more content…
However if that happens the percent of students passing every year will shrink due to replacing textbooks for tablets. Handheld technological device such as tablets are associated with a range of health problems. By this one will develop a computer vision syndrome. Witch causes headaches, dry eyes, blurred vision and eyestrain. Using tablets is more expensive than using printed text. It will required schools purchasing hardware that is the tablet, and software that is the textbooks. Also building a new Wi-Fi set-up. Many textbooks are not available in digital format or on the specific tablet used by a school. Print textbooks cannot crash freeze or get hack, unlike tablets, there is no chance of getting spyware or malware. By any chance if a tablet is broken and requires an experienced technician to fix it. Witch can be costly and time-consuming. Textbooks can usually be repaired with basic supplies such as glue and tape. One of the major things that will happen is robbery. If a robber sees kids walking home or getting out of school. The chances of getting robbed that day will be nine out of ten. With that being said, if they replaced textbooks with tablets most likely each class or each school will have their own contract about it. Meaning that if one loses it they will need to pay for it and put some more money in so a student will get a new tablet. With this change it will decrease the
Textbooks are not small at all. Carrying heavy things can really damage your back. Then kids might miss school because they had to go to the doctor. Most of the time when you have a textbook it could be outdated. Chromebooks are way lighter and there information is more recent than a textbooks. Kid who are coming from health or gym will be tired. Carrying textbooks will make them more tired. Then they could fall asleep. Stress from being in middle school I know stress. If you grab the wrong textbook , lose your homework and
In addition, textbooks are heavy to carry around and it takes longer to find a page. Likewise with digital textbooks they are compatible with tablets, smartphones, and laptops; it’s much easier to carry around and affordable price. However, some people may argue that digital textbooks can be a distraction for people because they would not bother read anymore. The author and poet Dana Gioia argues that electronics alternatives may be a bad influence that will lead society to not read anymore. Gioia complicates matters further when she writes, “While no single activity is responsible for the decline in reading, the cumulative presence and availability of electronic alternatives increasingly have drawn Americans away from reading” (161). I think Gioia is mistaken because she overlooks on electronics being a bad influence; but doesn’t see the benefits of electronics. To demonstrate, most of my textbooks are digital, which I can easily carry my tablet around where ever I go. Also, I save more money on digital textbooks and are simple to annotated the text. Journalist Ellen Lee interview a student from Liberty University, and he states that he prefers digital textbooks because he can tap his iPad, opens the digital copy and quickly open the page. Nevertheless, he also like digital textbooks because it has a feature that allows to highlight and mark the
Tablets can help improve the way students attain their studies. According to Cam Lincoln “Students who used the iPad version of the textbook scored 20 percent higher on standardized test versus students who learned with traditional textbook”(parag.2).This demonstrates that, students who used the iPad version of the textbook learned more effectively than the students who learned with traditional textbooks. The iPad clearly shows that it can help improved test scores. According to National Association for the Education of Young Children “for children with minimal exposure to technology or limited engli...
Do you find iPads usefu? More than 170 million iPads have been sold these days. They have become an indispensable device for many people like students, officers why is this yellow, and workers. I believe that using an iPad is easier and better than using papers to learn at school. During my http://youtu.be/sizz7XBooNA years of attending school, I have always found it much more convenient to read books on iPads instead on paper books, to type essays rather than write them by hand. Also, to not have to carry heavy stacks of textbooks around and also that it can be edited or rewritten easily. We should require to use iPads for education. IPads is not only uncompliacated and productive, it is portable, afoo, and you can learn more information than text books.
Almost everyone attends a school at one time in their life, whether the classroom includes technology or not. Research shows that technology isn’t used as often as one might think. The article, “High Access and Low Use of Technology in High School Classrooms” illustrates the use of technology by stating that only one in ten elementary and middle school teachers are daily users of computers (Cuban, Kirkpatrick, Peck). Most schools now have classrooms that use technology throughout the entire class time and even at home to do homework. Although some people might agree with the use of technology in class, it is more harmful to the students than useful.
This suggest that even though students have electronic media at their disposal they would rather opt to look for an easy way of doing things which comes under the category of 'academic dishonesty.' I believe the higher education leads towards one's career and the future of our economy and society. Higher education must be able to teach students the importance of academic integrity which they must take with them to their careers. Being dishonest in your work is not right, with all the technology in the world school work should be getting easier and easier, so why cheat is the real question, be honest and finish the assignment or do the test on your own get the satisfaction of doing
Because of the new technology, students have come up with more creative and cunning ways to cheat on a test, and since the technology is so accessible it is extremely tempting to commit cheating. Smart phones, tablets, and even smart watches have allowed students to easily look up answers on a test, or have pictures of notes that are easily accessible without a teacher noticing, if the teacher is not active in preventing this from happening (Hendricks, 2011). Also, now that online classes have become more common, there is a greater concern for academic cheating because there is no face-to-face interaction with the instructor. This allows the student to feel less connected emotionally to the instructor and therefore does not feel remorse if they choose to cheat on a test, or plagiarize something off the internet (Simpson,
The article also revealed that more than half of students have previously used digital textbooks to study at home. (Embong, 2014). Using digital textbooks can provide increased engagement for the learning process by providing advanced tools such as highlighting, word definition, and text-to-speech capabilities. Digital textbooks permits students to see lessons from a different angle since it allows addresses more learning styles. In addition, faculty could benefit greatly from using E-textbooks because many companies provide a way for them to customize the E-textbook for their course specific course, enabling them to include lecture notes, practice tests, or links to relevant websites with other pertinent information than could enhance the course material (Johnson, 2016).
Tablets and iPads are being used in elementary schools to advance the technology in classrooms. Some say that these devices are being used in classrooms because elementary students in this generation are already using these devices at home for learning. Schools all over the United States have begun to carry out million dollar plans to supply their students with Microsoft, Apple, and Samsung electronic “notebooks”. Many schools have hopped on the bandwagon and decided to incorporate iPads and Tablets into their curriculum. Middle and high schools have introduced the idea of using tablets and iPads but only as an alternative to carrying big books. Elementary schools have no legitimate reason to use these expensive devices. Unlike middle and high schools, these devices will only serve as a distraction to young students. iPads and Tablets should not be used in elementary classrooms for learning purposes because they create a distraction, eliminate the traditional ways of learning, include applications that may not portray the right ideas, and there are many difficulties that come with electronic devices.
Many self respecting and honest people can be motivated to cheat in this day and age. Will the prevalence of computers, text messaging cell phones and even the ipod in the classroom students have technology at their fingertips and therefore the accessibility to cheat. The computer allow you to Google almost anything. The cell phones allow you to text another student or even someone sitting at a computer. The iPod® allows you to listen to almost anything including the speech you may be writing about. We all want that edge over the person sitting next to us.
Teachers and principals think switching to e-books will be a major step in modernizing the city's schools (Lowinger 2). E-books are an online version of a normal standard textbook. Some schools are switching to e-books because the world is becoming more involved with technology. Technology is becoming more and more advanced these days. Adults think it is important to teach teenagers how to work with the new technology (Springen 2). Technology has come a long way since textbooks came out. Textbooks have developed throughout the years and now they are able to be on electronic devices. Reading e-books does not have to be at a computer. Almost all devices used for school can have online books downloaded on them. People can read e-books on small devices like an Ipad or a kindle. It just depends on what device it is downloaded on (“What…” 1). Students can download their online textbooks on any device they want as long as the device supports the e-book being downloaded. While some teachers think online books will help students learn better, other teachers think students will get distracted with e-books. Schools should transfer to e-books because they cost less, students do not have to carry as much weight, and they have more features.
Paper has officially been replaced with iPads. Just kidding, but there are over 1.5 million iPads that are being used in classrooms by students on a daily bases rather than using printed textbooks as main learning resources (Graduating With Technology). With recent advancements in technology, many school districts have turned the focus off traditional learning methods of using textbooks, and are now focusing on integrating the use of tablets and computers as the main means of learning for students. Technology is going to continue to advance throughout this digital age and is going to gain popularity within education, but there are questions arising of how effective technology is when used in the classroom. The opportunity of using new technology to enhance learning should be seized, but textbooks should not become extinct within the education system or become a secondary learning method due to tablets and other types of technology becoming more popular in the education system. Textbooks are reliable, they can be used by anyone, and there are enough textbooks for each student to have their own, and be able to take them home. Also, technology is impacting the way the brain receives information. Reading digital print isn't as productive for readers as printed text, and there is limited access to resources needed for tablets to be effective when used by students. While this is true there are benefits to using tablets and other forms of technology in the classroom. It is easier for teachers to have assignments emailed directly to them, or post assignments on the internet, the use of technology is required in many core classes, and textbooks are easily worn, and expensive.
With a one-to-one laptop program, the days of ripped textbooks, broken bindings, and number documentation would be tasks of the past. If every student owned a laptop, kids would have their entire curriculum at their fingertips and would never have to worry about leaving an assignment or book at school. Although some say reading from a computer distracts from the hands on experience of a book, a tablet (touch screen) lapt...
As more people began to access the Internet through smart phones and tablets rather than laptops and computers, it is not a surprise that they would also want to transform the American education system by bringing tablets into classrooms. In fact, a few schools around the country have already replaced textbooks with tablets and have seen improvements in students’ standardized test scores. Using tablets instead of textbooks is not only convenient and helpful, but it can also reduce the amount of paper wastes in school. However, it is not a good idea to completely transform textbooks with tablets with the current technology, for it can not only be damaging to the environment and costly to set up, but also might not be effective in improving K-12 education in the long run.
One of the most profound advantages with using tablets/computers over textbooks is the ability to record and monitor cheating in a more formal way. For example, a large variety of schools throughout the United States use programs such as GoGuardian to monitor students while on tablets/computers. These programs influence students to have stronger morals such as gaining self-discipline, trust
