Why is it it important to vote
“Nobody will ever deprive the American people themselves and the only way they can do this is not voting.” - franklin D. roosevelt. What Mr.roosevelt is trying to say is nobody will ever have the right to make other Americans vote. When you vote you have to make a hard decision. You cannot make other citizens vote if they do not want to. Its their decision to do what they feel. If they do not like who is running they will not have to vote. People ask why it is important to vote. Well voting helps us protect our country. Voting is the key to success. It can help improve our world. It helps us choose who we want to run our country, and to see who will be allowed in it, our president, mayor, and many more.
As of the ratification of the 26th amendment in 1971, the voting age in the US is 18. As I turn 18 this coming summer I now have the chance to participate in elections local, state, and national wide. The history of youth voting has changed over time with that more 18-24 year olds are voting as time goes on. The question comes to mind about voting in that why would someone want to vote and if it’s just a waste of time. I believe that if people have the chance to vote, then they should which is why I am going to vote in elections to come in the future.
First, one reason why Americans should be required to vote is that it will educate the citizens. On the contrary, citizens should be required to vote. In addition, if the turnout rates are high, then political parties reaches out to the citizens. As a result, the voices of the less educated and the poorer Americans will be heard and not ignored. Most importantly, mandatory voting only benefits us a nation and individually. Clearly, compulsory voting should be enforced.
When I believe in a certain person or idea, I vote for that person or idea. That vote goes toward shaping the place I love into what I think is best for us. The moment that we decide that we need to restrict certain voters, is the moment we put power into a small subset of individuals. These individuals may or may not have America's best interest at hand. There are so many times we hear a politician has special interest because of financial backing from some multi-million dollar company.

People have many different reasons why they may or may not vote. U.S. citizens should use their vote because it is their earned right, it helps them to affect change, and it ensures that their voice is heard. Furthermore, children and other members of society who cannot vote depend on voters to make the right choices on their behalf.

Many Americans willingly choose to stay uninformed about politics and issues, for various reasons. They should not be forced to vote for a candidate that they do not agree with or see as a future leader. Since America is a democracy, forcing all citizens to make an uneducated or forced vote would be taking away the people’s liberty.
In order to vote an individual must reach a certain amount of requirements. A few necessities are to be a U.S. citizen, followed by not having any traces of a felony, being completely mentally competent and being of age 18 or older. Following these circumstances it is necessary because voting is extremely critical to the U.S. and one would not want felons, the mentally ill, an illegal immigrant, or minors to be responsible for making a choice they may not be fully aware of. With this said the U.S. should not forcibly require all of the citizens to vote because it is a freedom to vote and forcing people to do so will not only anger them, but may cause careless votes toward a candidate they choose at random. If the U.S. required all of its citizens to vote by law one could say this would be good because the country would, by force, have an outstanding voter turnout.
This is impactful because it outlines rules and conditions for individuals to follow and by doing so they are engaging in something that helps society. Another reason would be that “voting connects citizens with their political process, as well as other citizens, it also helps safeguard our freedoms, and it also leads to other forms of involvement with political processes” (Historica Foundation). The experience of casting a ballot in the elections helps me understand law and society further because it helps me understand why elections occur and what the benefits of voting, resulting in being more legally conscious. This contributes to a law and society perspective more broadly because it contributes to the legal consciousness of law and society, which is about being aware of your surroundings and beliefs and acting upon what you believe is right. This occurs when the population is allowed to vote in elections according to their belief of what is right.
Throughout history many historical figures such as Lyndon B. Johnson, Martin Luther King Jr., and Elizabeth Cady Stanton have fought for their right to vote. Fighting for their right was not easy and took many years to accomplish. Massacres occurred such as Bloody Sunday, and wars such as the Civil War took the lives of many who were fighting for their right to vote. Voting is important to America due to democracy. The lack of people voting would cause an aristocracy.
Being a citizen, it is our privilege and our duty to vote. I believe it is worth it to vote since it is going to be our life for the next four years or until the next president takes place. As citizens of America, voting especially for the president is important since they will be the one deciding whether or not they will lead our country to success or to failure. All votes counts and I believe that if everyone votes, then we will not have thing such as a rallies or impeachment. With votes, there will be unity in people’s voices.

Many people have become aware of the fact that the number of voters had reached its all time low.
