Batman is arguably one of the most influential characters ever. He resonated with a lot of people because he was so relatable the general public. Batman’s main goal was to promote greater good and that is what people most want, the want to good guy to win and the bad guy to lose. People grew up with Batman, he’s been around for 75 years, so he’s definitely an icon. He has inspired millions, and people carried that inspiration with them for the rest of their lives. Batman came out with a TV show in the 60’s and this TV show had a huge cultural impact. The TV show talked about major issues that were happening during that time, for example the New Deal, and the lack of funding for education during this time. This show made comments like “closed on a wednesday due to lack of funds? Shocking! Shocking!” Batman was referring to the library being closed, and because a big part of Bruce's life if fundraising and giving back, he wants to help. Later in the show Bruce gives a 5,000 to Gotham City Library. This is just one of the many examples of where Batman made statements about current events, and proves his cultural relevance. The world told him over and over again that he could it, so Batman's response was to put on his suit and kick ass. Ordinary people have been told over and over that they can’t do something, all they need to do is look up to Batman. Tim Burton’s Batman movie was such a cultural phenomenon, Batman was portrayed as a more dark and mysterious character than ever before. This “new” Batman man who was an orphaned gothic hero really resonated with America's teens at the time, they flocked to this new interpretation of Batman. The new batman totally changed the public's view of Batman, and clearly this new Batman was a hit because it made a killing at the box
