The 1920s was a decade of change. New ideas; new innovations; new people; new lives. So many things changed, similar to the rhythm of today, yet so different in the way it is seen. My life isn’t similar to a 16-year-old child from 1920. Even so, I would very much want to be a part of that. I want to live in the 1920s. I want to, for a few reasons; the first being that I want to live in a world of genuine emotion and human interaction without an electronic medium. I want more than an, “LOL,” or, “OMG.” In addition, I want to live in a world that is safer than the one I wake up to each day. One that is more utopian that this. Finally, I want to live in the 1920s because I’m tired of being afraid. Afraid of being me. Elaborations of these 3 arguments are to follow as I bring foreword, why I want to live in the 1920s.

I hate being afraid to live in this toxic society that is painted as, “safe,” and, “marvelous.” I am fed up with being bullied because I am gay and because I am different. If I could go back to the 1920s I would in a heartbeat, so I could capitalize on the malleable nature of the time. I would be an activist for equal rights before the conflicts even arise. I would do everything in my power to make sure people who may be different don’t feel that way, and so that maybe, 90 years later, there is no white or black; no straight or gay. There are only people. I would live in the 1920s so that people my junior will recognize that there is a place for all of them in this nation. There are others like them, who share the same hardships, who fight the same battles. I want people of all backgrounds to know they deserve to be here just as much as the next. I want to create a world of people who aren’t as afraid as I am, because I am afraid. I don’t want anyone to be afraid. No one deserve to be
