I did not want to go to Hinds Community College at first. Like my high school classmates, I wanted to go straight to a four-year university, but I was indecisive. It was my parents’ idea for me to go to Hinds, and I am still thanking them for that advice. By attending Hinds, I saw myself grow as a person, created a strong network, and made transferring to a four-year college less stressful. I can confidently say that shy is not the word that people will used to describe me. With a small campus, I have ample amount of opportunities to put myself out more. Joining the Honors Program/ Phi Theta Kappa and holding a leadership position, gave me this confidence. Those organization along with my instructors also gave me a strong, growing network
Have you ever went into a place having a set mindset on how it 's going to be? Then your mind changes. That 's what happen to me when I went into college. When you complete senior year the anxiety of college sinks in. Well I went into college thinking that it was going to awful because of what people said. A Lot of people made it seem scary like it was impossible and so hard. So I went Into college with a negative mind set and didn 't want to be there. After all the atmosphere of Saint Louis Community College is so shockingly different than Ladue High School.

One of my good friends, she graduated from Temecula Preparatory School recently. She has been at this school since kindergarten and she hates the mere idea of a large school. But, once I graduate high school, my next step is to attend Tulsa Community College. There were several factors in this decision. Such as, I get to live at home still and continue to save my money. I get to attend for free since I live in Tulsa County and will perform forty hours of community service. Plus, the great thing about community colleges is that they accept anyone, whether they tried or did not try in school, students still have a way to continue their education. Community college allows for students to take the time to figure out what they want to do with their life. I am grateful I was presented with this option to attend Tulsa Community College, otherwise, I might be going to a four-year school, far away from my family, and I might be stuck in a major that I am no longer interested
I want to go to college for the wholesome intellectual stimulation and to get more involved with my community. College will be my last opportunity to do so before I enter the work force. At college I can be intellectually and academically challenged; I will be able to learn with friends who are as dedicated to learning and the pursuit of knowledge as I am. While I wish finding my way around the school was my only problem, I was faced with some internal challenges. When I began college I had a small group of friends, but when I was trying to introduce myself to new people it came as a surprise to them that my parents did not attend college. After the conversations ended, I felt uncomfortable with how to act or think because I had a feeling of misplacement when talking with my fellow peers. As a byproduct of the change in college culture, it will create a “friendlier” environment for the first generation. Students need to feel safe, rather than out of place.
As the research and enthusiasm about this special college continued, I got to realize something that completely influenced my decision. How I was going to deal with some many girls every day? We tend to very competitive among each other. I was going to study engineering, a major that deals with lots of male professionals, hence I did not see how I was going to develop my communication skills if I did never study with males’ classmates. I felt those communication skills were going to lack from my resume. Hence, I got to understand that students from female colleges are negatively affected on their education and behavior because they get an idealistic and hostile educational atmosphere.
College is a whole new chapter in my education journey. I am confident in completing my college education. All my previous educational years have shaped how I can survive in college today. I try to be social on campus and welcome new friendships. Attending a small college has its benefits for the social aspect. Everyone almost knows everyone.
