From Then to Now What if I could go back in time and sit down with my teenage self? The conversation would seem longwinded, and I would probably want to tell me ‘okay’, just so I would shut up. If I could shake that spaced out kid, with his head in the clouds and yell into his face, ‘Listen, it doesn’t have to be difficult! Things can be so much easier if you pay a little more attention.’ Looking back as I went through high school my priorities changed, from music and friends to wanting to join the military. The decision to join the military changed my life and molded the person that I am today. I had it all figured out back then. My plan, my approach, and my dreams were in front of me. I had no approach or plan as I transitioned from freshman to my junior year. I valued music, it was my passion, and I would lose myself whenever a certain song was within earshot of me. I joined the high school band and played the saxophone, so that I could learn to read music. Music literally struck a chord in my bones and I would forget about my school work. I would sit in class and think of what my band name would be and imagined it written in different artistic font styles. A lot of my time was spent writing lyrics and trying to sing them in my head. The main stress factor, is one the rest of the nation’s workforce stresses about, the indication that my job might not be there tomorrow it is my greatest concern. So my priority now is making sure that I have something to fall back on if the government should decide to close our maintenance shop. It’s a possibility, but recently our new supervisor has assured me that our shop is here to stay. I have 17 years in the Army Reserves, and my plan is to get my 20 year letter from the Army, guaranteeing me one form of
