Why History is Important
The Study of history is important because we learn from our mistakes, we share a common experience with people that binds us together, our minds store our experiences, and society can build upon past accomplishments.
The first, and most significant reason history is important is because we learn from our mistakes. If there were no history then everyone would make the same mistakes over and over. In any job, if you can avoid mistakes you or someone else made in the past then you would run a more efficient working place. An intelligent person would not make the mistakes themselves but learn from other people’s mistakes.
The second reason history is important is because we share a common experience which binds us together as a country, society, and people. We can relate with our neighbors, peers, or even someone off the street. We often share the same hardships or happiness as these other people. If we didn’t have history than we would not have any thing to share with one another.
The third reason history is an important factor in our life is because our minds are store our experiences. Everyone is born with a part in the brain that stores all of the history that you see, hear, and feel. If we didn’t have history, it would be like having amnesia and we would not know what was what. For example, when we have a certain experience like going to the beach for the first time; it’s the first time you touch the sand, see waves crashing, or feel the cool salty breeze against your face. That is an experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life. If you didn’t have history or memory then every time you go somewhere it would be like the first time since you don’t remember, and you would not have experience in life.
The fourth reason history is important is because society can build upon past accomplishments with out having to re-achieve them. We as people make inventions and discoveries. If there were no history then people would not be
As my family and I sped along the coast, the sour smell of sulfur vents and sea salt pungently gusted through my nostrils. My clothes were damp from the constant spray of seawater. My sense of balance was overcome by the sequential hop from wave to wave and – combined with the
Firstly, Ocean City boasts an awe-inspiring appeal to our senses through its grace. I begin each visit standing stagnant; stunned by the beauty the city entails. Each time, I soak up the sensation of the grain beneath my feet, the way it appeared as though the waves
Write down a list of at least 10 of your favorite memories, sensations, and experiences.
This is not a part of the mind that many people give thought to. Most people believe that they take actions based on their conscious mind, but the truth is their subconscious mind is the main motivator behind the decisions they make.
The mind is a part of the body just like the heart but more dynamic and complex in its nature...
Memory is very important in everyone’s lives. Without the previous memory, or memory of the past, probably most of people can’t even think about what the future has in store. People wouldn’t be able to remember what they did yesterday, today, or tomorrow. Without it, people can’t learn new things, or anything at all. Learning would be futile and void without memory.

Most of the body’s functions such as, thinking, emotions, memories and so forth are controlled by the brain. It serves as a central nervous system in the human body. The mind is the intellect/consciousness that originates in the human brain and manifests itself in emotions, thoughts, perceptions and so forth. This means that the brain is the key interpreter of the mind’s content. Jackson and Nagel seem to resist identifying what we call “mental events” with brain events, for different reasons, while J.J.C. Smart takes the opposing view.
History is a story told over time. It is a way of recreating the past so it can be studied in the present and re-interpreted for future generations. Since humans are the sole beneficiaries of history, it is important for us to know what the purpose of history is and how historians include their own perspective concerning historical events. The purpose and perspective of history is vital in order for individuals to realise how it would be almost impossible for us to live out our lives effectively if we had no knowledge of the past. Also, in order to gain a sound knowledge of the past, we have to understand the political, social and cultural aspects of the times we are studying.
Have you ever visited a place so beautiful and serene that you couldn’t imagine a more stunning place? For me, it is the shimmering and flowing waters of the ocean. The way that the deep blue waters meet the gritty beige sand leaves me in such awe. The water is like a soft blanket, comforting and inviting. The unique wildlife and vegetation that exists on the beach is something I’ve never seen anywhere else. There is no place more beautiful and thrilling than the beach.
History is the bridge that connects the past with the present. Without history, we have no future. The past gives value to our present. David C. McCullough stated, “History is a guide to navigation in perilous times. History is who we are and why we are the way we are”. I agree with McCullough, history gives us a purpose. History allows us to investigate and interpret the past in order to see how we developed and where we came from. We can get an idea of what has influenced our past and present, and also what will shape our future. We can see what previous generations did and whether or not t...
In the same way as knowledge of the past helps to improve computers, it also improves the quality of life for mankind. Knowledge of our past helps us to see how humans react and deal with situations. this allows us to take preventative measures. There was a time when mankind was always at war with each other. Everyone was fighting to take each others land, food, and technology. Since then the United Nations have been created to prevent such types of pointless wars and now there are police which enforce the law and a government in which power lies in the people. There have been many bad times for humans in all parts of the world throughout history. There have been big and small wars with huge death tolls, small battles, famines, depressions, slavery and countless others events which could have been prevented if we had known what the outcome would be. Just as a person learns from their mistakes, knowledge of our history helps us to learn from our mistakes giving us insight into the future. Many events that have happened in our past no longer plague the world today. Slavery used to be prevalent ...
The sites of memory tell that we must create archives, preserve memories because the memories will not occur again naturally. Memory becomes a history with each passing moment. In modern societies today, memory is archival through recording, taking pictures. With the advent of modern technology, people are creating memories and preserving them as well. As today it is very difficult to draw a line of distinction where we can say what to remember and what not to. The prediction is impossible what we should therefore remember. “Memory transforms from historical to psychological, social to individual, from repetition to creating re-memories.”(Nora: 15)
It is important to study history because it teaches us about not only our own culture but about cultures all around the world. Learning about other cultures and how they look a the world and what their opinion on certain things are , helps us learn better ways of avoiding conflicts. History is just a way of getting us to understand human life and helping us embrace new ways of making a healthier lifestyle. Studying history is very important to all of our society because it answers every question. History is everywhere so why not learn about
The mind cannot exist like a body or a collection of cells in a body. If it did somebody would have found it or at least given a rough description of its location. Also, things do not exist just because we can name them. We speak of unicorns but this does not make them exist. Just because we refer to something as a mind does not make it exist. Nevertheless, we are each aware of internal experiences in the most intimate way. Doubts and fears, the blue sky, the scent of flowers, all have an immediacy that is undeniable.
