In Ontario and British Colombia Drivers are required to have winter rated tires that are approved with logos or a minimum tire depth of 3.5 mm, these restrictions are applied on certain roads. You are in risk of getting a hefty fine of up to $1000 of your car is not equipped with proper tires. However these restrictions are only applied to drivers in Ontario and British Colombia. Winter tires have more than 40% improvement over standard all-season tires or summer tires. Why drivers who live in the same weather conditions also should be required to use winter tires? In think that everyone should use winter tires in winter because all-season tires get too hard in the summer to use in winter, Ontario and British Colombia have seen a 20% improvement in accidents when drivers are required to use winter tires. Summer tires have almost no grip in snowy conditions and slow down the process of stopping, accelerating, and turning, which puts you and others on the road in danger. Winter tires have rubber compounds formulated to stay soft for better traction in cold weather, something that all-season tires don’t have. Tire shops only put studs on a tire if the tire is new. Studded tires are not meant to be used on asphalt roads because of how fast they wear out and the damage they cause on asphalt roads. You should only use studded tires in extreme winter. In some places using studded tires is banned because of how fast they tear up asphalt
