There has been quite a bit of debate over the years about whether or not professional athletes deserve their multi-million dollar contracts recently with athletes earning some of the highest amounts of money out of any job in the world. Some people believe that they deserve their money because they are what makes a sport and what earns it so much money from tickets and merchandise while others believe that they don't deserve it because there are more important jobs that don't earn nearly as much revenue and that influence society positively such as a doctor or a teacher. The only thing professional athletes do to earn their money is to entertain, but they still receive higher salaries than people that educate children, keep people healthy and alive, and many other jobs that have a better, positive impact on society and its future. Teachers and doctors provide a greater positive influence to society and its future by shaping the minds of the future and saving lives yet they are paid less than a professional athlete whose purpose is to entertain. Although these people have a greater positive impact on the world, society as a whole doesn’t give them the recognition or salaries they deserve. …show more content…

They deserve their pay because they provide an expensive and popular source of entertainment. Extreme amounts of people love watching professional sports and will pay lots of money for merchandise and tickets. The only reason these sports exist is because of the talented athletes and therefore they receive the majority of profits. Professional athletes produce as much attention as any other form of entertainment in the world and it is because of this that they make so much money and other jobs
