For many years there has been a countless abundance of couples who have wanted to marry, but due to their sexual orientation were unable to do so. Sexual orientation is a highly controversial topic and has been so for years not only in the U.S., but all over the world. In Dublin, Ireland Katherine Zappone and Ann Louise Gilligan were one of the numerous gay couples refused marriage; however, the couple got married in Canada in 2003 but had trouble gaining the court’s acknowledgement of their marriage (Associated) since they were under the Defense of Marriage Act which was endorsed in 1996 by the then current president, Bill Clinton (Supreme). Restricting lesbian and/or gays the right to marry is bringing back the feeling and reality of segregation (just a different type of segregation). As stated in the Constitution, all people have the right to marry. Denying them the right to marry is taking away the right every person should have. For some individuals, being gay or lesbian is against their beliefs and therefore they refused to marry someone of the same sex. Gay/Lesbian couples do not decide to be gay, therefore it is not a sin. A reason that some bring up to prove that gay/lesbian couples should not be allowed the right to marry like everyone else (Muskal). Another reason that some also try to justify their beliefs is the fact that gay/lesbian couples cannot reproduce. If this were allowed to be a valid argument, then we must also refuse infertile couples the right to marry.There is no difference between the two couples besides the fact that one couple is male and female while the other are of the same gender. Granting gay/lesbian couples the right to marry will give them a semblance of equality and this feeling of equality would ease the feeling of segregation from straight …show more content…

In the Old Testament The Book of Leviticus 18:22 it states “ Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with woman; that is detestable,” God is voicing that people of the same sex should not have relations seeing as that is a sin. In the New Testament, 1 Corinthians , Corinthians 6:9 it states “ Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men…” It later goes on to state in Romans 1: 26-32 that having relations with the same sex is a sin that may be justified by death. In conclusion, having homosexual relations is against the beliefs and sacred word of God. However, the Bible under no circumstances claims that homosexual marriage is a sin. In addition to the fact, the Bible doesn’t endorse any sort of marriage over another (Jefferson). The creation of Adam and Eve is precisely another being created from man. In Genesis 2:21-23 it states that God took one of Adam’s ribs and generated a human being named Eve to be his companion. Therefore, Adam is really marrying a human being that was part of man classified as a woman, which could be considered homosexuality as Eve was once part of man.
