Do Curfews Keep Teens out of Trouble? Growing up, almost all teens are told that they must be home at a certain time by their parents. In other words, they are given a “curfew” that if isn’t followed may lead to consequences such as getting certain privileges taken away or not being allowed to go out at all. A curfew is a regulation requiring a person to be home at a certain time, as imposed by a parent on a child. Curfews are used by parents as an attempt to prevent their child from getting into trouble and to keep them safe. However, even with a curfew set by their parents, they can still get into trouble no matter the time of day. According to “19 Bizarre Teenage Curfew Statistics,” “A recent study by UC-Berkeley showed that in 54 cities that had a population of 180,000 or more, youth arrests dropped by 10% once a youth curfew was instituted.” Having a curfew helps teens learn that if they don’t listen to their parents then there will be consequences to their actions.
