Poe Died from Rabies Essay There are many explanations of how Edgar Allen Poe died. Edgar Allen Poe was a drunken and was very sensitive to wine and beer. Poe tended to act aggressively after drinking. The most reliable explanation of how Edgar died is that he died from rabies. Poe infact had not died from alcohol but from rabies. In some cases of rabies victims might not have bite marks showing they were bitten, But their actions show otherwise.The letter “Rabies Death Theory” says, “the virus can be incubated in human as long as a year”.This means someone can get bittenr in a year ago and wouldnt show symptoms until the virus get stronger or appears. This case Poe showed no signs of being physically bitten but his actions showed he had rabies. …show more content…

The article “Poe's death as real and as a case of rabies, not Telltale alcohol” says, “Poe could not drink water or alcohol ( rabies victims can not drink water without pain in the throat)”.This means although Poe had no signs of bite marks his actions prove he had rabies. In this case rabies victims cannot drink water without pain in the throat, although Poe couldn't drink water another one of his actions prove he had rabies very clearly. Poe’s other actions showed he clearly had rabies.The article “Poe's death is Rewritten as a case of rabies, not Telltale alcohol” says, “Poe entered the hospital shouting at imaginary Companions and after the fourth day he died”.This means that Paul was acting very aggressive at his stay at the hospital but after 4 days he then calmed down and passed. In this case rabies victim tend to act aggressive for a day or two then come down and pass on. Although there was no physical evidence proving Edgar Allan Poe have rabies his actions followed the ones who did have rabies. When they had reburied him they had found a chunk of his brain (or a lump), scientist had found out that brain tumors don’t decay. A tumor is swelling of the body caused by abnormal growth of tissue. The swollen brain would be an explanation for this because meningitis and encephalitis is a bacterial disease that affects the brain and the spinal cord. Another reason people believe Poe died was from alcoholism. Joseph Walker thought Poe was drunk and had consumed too much alcohol. Yes Poe was found outside of a bar, but you don’t have to go to a bar to just drink. Also impaired judgment is a symptom to meningitis and encephalitis, which can explains why Poe had looked drunk. We know that Poe was an alcoholic before, so we can state that Poe could have had some drinks before hand and had made his sickness progress. People with alcoholism are at more high risk when they get meningitis or encephalitis, which could even cause death. As per his foster mother's deathwish, Poe reconciled with his foster father, who coordinated an appointment for him to the United States Military Academy at West Point. His time at West Point was ill-fated, however, as Poe supposedly deliberately disobeyed orders and was dismissed. After that, his foster father repudiated him until his death in March 27, 1834.
