...Selecting a college to attend was a lengthy process. I applied to four different schools. I outweighed all the pros and cons of each college. The ultimate goal was to persevere and graduate with a degree. As a high school student, I think I found Ohio State appealing because of all the hype that surrounded it. Once I came to the conclusion that I wanted to go into the medical field, I realized that I needed to be in an atmosphere where I could maintain my focus. Nonetheless, the most consequential influencing factor was regarding finances. Case was extremely expensive but I received a substantial amount of financial help compared to Ohio State. In addition, I was fortunate to obtain a work study job that helped with living expenses. I knew that college would not be easy especially given Case’s reputation. In the end, I am confident I made the correct decision.

I want to go to college for the wholesome intellectual stimulation and to get more involved with my community. College will be my last opportunity to do so before I enter the work force. At college I can be intellectually and academically challenged; I will be able to learn with friends who are as dedicated to learning and the pursuit of knowledge as I am. A career in nursing is extremely important in today's society. Without nurses to assist doctors in the care of patients, the quality of patient care may not be the same. Nurses do not just serve a great role in our community, but they also are just as needed as a police officer patrolling the streets or a teacher in the classroom. Although it may seem very easy to become a nurse, one's desire must be very strong in order to to actually pursue a career in nursing. It has always been a great motivation and inspired me not to get discouraged with failure; rather look forward for your goals. Frequently, it takes many trials and lack of success as well as achievements, for one to truthfully discover him/herself. I instinctively progressed through the motions of life. Many options were available and choosing a career as I grew up kept altering, until one day when I saw how helping other people is my sole purpose of life. Getting to know more of physician assistant drove me into the thoughts of pursuing it as a career.
When I first graduated from high school and enrolled in CCU’s traditional undergraduate program I had high hopes to become a world famous neonatologist. I was driven, motivated and confident that I was going to succeed and become Dr. Rachael Hildebrandt by the time I was in my late twenties. As I moved from my teenage years and into my twenties, I saw these dreams vanish when life threw a curve ball in the form of a son. Suddenly the responsibility of being a wife and a mother required that I did my part to help support our little family, so school went on the backburner and my professional career at The Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas began. I have spent the last 10 years in the blood industry and have been blessed to find myself in a director level position.
Attending college has helped me see the right benefits that will help me achieve my ultimate dream goals. First of all, I want to be able to learn how to relate to different cultures, ethnicities, and personalities, and also be able to understand different backgrounds, the way people from diverse culture think and act and their lifestyles; In addition, I want to learn how to adapt to new situations including dealing with responsibilities such as using Blackboard and making sure that all my assignments are completed and submitted on time. Furthermore, I will have to learn how to adapt to being an adult and taking care of my own needs.
For future decisions, it’s important to choose an undergraduate university that has a strong history of educated pre-medical students sufficely for medical school; however, it is of great significance that you are passionate about the education you are receiving to prevent burnout. For example, I have chosen my academic major to be biochemistry, because it is a subject that never fails to excite or amaze me. I also have plans to work at a summer camp that treats kids with various medical conditions that will give me a broad range of medical experience. In addition, I have also researched medical missions that I can participate in as an undergraduate. The first is Buckner International’s Project Go that focuses on transforming the eternal lives through the influence of medical clinics in countries across the world such as Kenya. The second is a medical mission through my major at the university I am hopeful to go to. For one academic semester, members of this program go to the Dominican Republic and Honduras with a similar focus as that of Project
