Everyone has a job they would want when they get older, some of the most popular being a vet, a police officer, a firefighter, or a doctor, but I want to be an astronomer. Astronomy is basically the study of the universe. I think it is an interesting job, while others might think it is boring. I'd rather look at the sky all night than watch TV all day! But what do astronomers do and how to I become one? To begin, how much do astronomers get paid? Well, the annual salary of an astronomer is about $110,980.00, and can be higher or lower depending on the astronomy job, as there are many different jobs in astronomy. Most people think astronomers sit at a telescope all night, and hardly do anything, but that's not even close! There are telescopes and accessories, astrolabes, spectrometers, and interferometers, just to name a few. There is also spacecraft of course, which is one of the most helpful. Spacecraft are used for many things, such as carrying rovers or probes, taking photographs of other objects in space, or to gather information about a planet. But with all this techy stuff, you are probably thinking, “In the rest of their time, they are probably sitting at a telescope....” Do you want me to be honest? Even if you didn't, I'm being honest anyways. Hate to burst you peoples bubbles, but astronomers are NOT lazy and actually only sit at a telescope a few times a year, most of the time working on building spacecraft or analyzing images taken by spacecraft. IN YOUR FACE PEOPLE WHO THINK ASTRONOMERS ARE LAZY AND SIT AT TELESCOPES ALL DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, I'm just quite angry at people who think astronomy is boring and that astronomers are lazy.
