Are school uniforms really necessary?
Many people think that they are truly necessary. But why are they? Why do our children need to have two sets of clothing to wear every day? Do parents really need to spend more money than the mean that they have to be part of school standards? Is this just another way that school can control parents and students? Let take some sometime and explore the question and really find out if school uniforms are really necessary.
What is the reason that school require to put on the extra cost on parents to pay for school uniforms. One reason that schools don’t take into account is that “for families who struggle financially, the requirement to purchase school uniforms for their children could prove significantly

When it come to be a couple of month into school they were begging their mom to wear something different. My sister had to pay money for a shirt that she could wear on specific day, which is another cost to parents. There also come a point that the children and parents “might feel that it takes away a way for children to express themselves and be more creative. It could be seen as stifling their creativity and independence to get them more willing to work for the 'man ' in later life. Whether or not this is a good thing is entirely a matter of perspective.” (http://www.healthguidance.org/entry/15038/1/Pros-and-Cons-of-School-Uniforms.html) Children need to be able to feel free to express themselves thru being creative. Also one other thing is that children really don’t like them. “At the end of the day children would all love to wear their own uniforms. It would make children want to come to that school and it would make them a lot more likely to tow the line in other ways.” …show more content…
If we are willing to exclude then we need to see that “Exclusion exists on two levels. First, through the decision as to what the uniforms should look like, and second, through intolerance to students who want to dress according to their gender or sexual identities. An American Indian tribe in South Dakota claims that their input was ignored when uniforms for their school district were being designed, which suggests school uniforms are culturally biased. Furthermore, school uniforms present a potential drawback for gay, lesbian and transgender students who might desire to dress according to their sexual or gender orientations. If a school isn 't willing to accommodate such students, the school could be viewed as discriminative.” (http://oureverydaylife.com/cons-students-wearing-school-uniforms-27880.html) I would have to agree with this statement. With school uniforms in an area that is mainly on type of cultural then maybe. For most of us we don’t even live where there is one kind of cultural. So with school uniforms should not be mandated for
Society has taught people that they should be themselves and express their individuality. There are many people out there who think everyone should act and be the same because people get judged if they act or dress differently. Everyone is their own person and no one should have to conform to everyone else in society. The debate over whether or not uniforms should be required has been going on for years. Many schools have decided it is best to have uniforms when, in all honesty, uniforms make no difference in academic success or behavior of students. Just because someone wears a uniform does not make them any smarter of behave in a better manner. School uniforms should not be required, not only because they do not let students express themselves, but also they cost families more money and do not affect what goes on at school.
School uniforms should be mandatory in all schools. Enforcing school uniforms will make outsiders more identifiable thus creating a safer academic environment for students. The attire will also reduce competition among students and their clothing choices. Additionally, they will prompt students to feel pride, respect, and spirit towards their school. School uniforms should generate equality and unity, create an improved learning environment, and decrease bullying amongst the students.
While some people think that school uniforms are a bad thing some people will disagree. When kids were their clothes into school this is when they start to judge each other. Some kids will be more mature than some, some will have a better dress sense, and some will have more money to deal with. What some people don’t want some children coming to school wearing fashionable new clothes and making fun of the ones that were hand me downs and will be embarrassed as a out coming result. With school uniforms every body is equal to each other (Lamouse, Mack).
What do kids think of school uniforms? According to Debat.org kids think that they should be able to wear what the want to so their personality. Kids want to show school spirit but don’t want uniforms to do that. The kids think that if they have to wear school uniforms than the teachers should have to wear school uniforms or wear the colors of the uniforms. ( Debate.org). Kids want to express themselves just not by wearing uniforms but the clothes they want to wear.So the kids don’t like uniforms but some of the kids like them because thay like to match everyone but most kids want to be diffrent. If people want uniforms than the kids should be able to design their uniforms. So that is what the kids of school uniforms.
One of the reasons schools should have uniforms is because families could save money. An average cost of a uniform in JC penny for one student a year is about three hundred dollars . A normal family spends over five hundred to thousand dollars for clothing for a student. If public schools have uniforms students wouldn’t feel different which would help them feel better and concentrate in their lessons. If families would be able to save money on clothing they could spend it on other school expenses students have. School uniforms could also last more than a year. Even if you grow out of your school uniform you could pass it down to a younger sibling or cousin. Uniforms help the need of not buying so many cloths a year.
Children tend to break off into “cliques” and uniforms could possibly help unite students. Finding creative ways to express their individuality through other outlets other than fashion can help children forge friendships based on their common interests. In conclusion, I feel that school uniforms are something all schools should really consider implementing in their policy. All of these points show that they can be budget-friendly, help children focus and lower the barriers children can build up because of merely what they are wearing.
They feel that if they wear school uniforms it will limit some students self expression, on how they should come to school dressed, hair did and other things that 's involved with fashion in todays society, and may try to stop them from using their own unique style to wear what the want to school. In the article "Pros and Cons of school uniforms "We find that not having uniforms creates an environment where they 're comfortable in their own skin." and expression how they feel with the type of clothes they wear (Johne)." Students may feel that they should have the right to wear what they want to school and not be picked on or called names. Many parents may argue that students should be able to express themselves through their clothing, but not in an inappropriate way to where they get suspended from school because their showing to much or bullied because they don 't have something nice on. But in a way the parents should always check their child before they leave the house for school in the AM to make sure they don 't get In
At the beginning of the 20th century almost no parent or faculty had any concerns with how students dressed to attend school. Nowadays, though, this is a giant concern among students, parents, and school board officials. Many arguments have been made over the matter saying uniforms should be required and enforced in schools. But, uniforms should not be required as they ultimately eliminate freedom of expression, promote conformity over individuality, may have a detrimental effect on students self image, emphasize the socioeconomic divisions they are supposed to eliminate, and lastly, school uniforms in public schools undermine the promise of a free education by adding an extra expense for families.
The ever so controversial issue of whether or not students should be required to wear school uniforms is commonly discussed and argued about. School board members, superintendents, teachers, and parents frequently talk about the benefits and negative effects of school uniforms on the students, schools, and the communities as a whole. People argue that uniforms pose a feeling of unity, decrease bullying and bad behavior, and that they look professional. On the other side of the argument, it is said that they are expensive and suppress the creativity and individuality of students. So the real question is, does requiring uniforms in school benefit students or deter them from reaching their full potential in
School uniforms also reduce ones ability to choose clothing that fits individual comfort needs. Above all, school uniforms even go against the 1st Amendment of the Constitution of the United States, which is about the establishment of religion and free speech. School uniforms are affecting the amount of money spent on clothing in a negative way. Many people think parents/guardians are saving money, but really, they are just spending more money. If one were to think about it, school uniforms can’t be worn outside of school.
I don’t think children or teens should have to wear school uniforms. It deprives them of their freedom of speech. They should have the right to wear what they want when they want. The uniforms are degrading and appalling. Everything would be dull and boring if everyone looked the same and wore the same stuff! Whatever happened to our U.S. Constitution? Some kids become stressed out and could get depressed because they cannot choose what they can wear, In Our own country? The land of the free and the home of the brave and we can’t even choose what we wear? The effect would be: students becoming angry and violent, and worst case scenario, suicide.
School uniforms in public schools are becoming increasingly popular across the nation. The public school system would benefit greatly if this policy were to be adopted. Opposition is always a factor when trying to make changes. Taking all things into consideration, the positive effects would be far greater than the negative effects. School uniforms should be required in public schools because their use would lead to higher education, less violence, and lower cost to parents.
Parents have to locate the right pants, socks, and shirts. Parents have to work extra hard on getting stains out of the uniforms. Uniforms can be costlier than other clothing. Children have to find other ways to express themselves. For instance backpacks, accessories, and other aspects become more important. This can be a challenge if their children is already struggling to find away to express themselves. On the other hand uniforms can be a great opportunity to get your children involved in something new. Your children will not have to think about what they are going to wear when they get up in the mornings. Parents you will not have to tell your daughter that she is showing cleavage or her shorts are too shorts. Or even get that phone call to bring your son some extra jeans because the ones he wore today have holes in them. School uniforms can help your child feel like they are a part of a group because all of the students will be wearing them. I believe that there will be less bullying. I also strongly believe that school uniforms is a great idea and offer a lot of positives in comparison to the
Individuality is an important reason why having school uniforms is a disadvantage. According to the ACLU, school uniforms took its toll on children’s creativity, independence, and individual behavior. During school, the only way a child can portray their individualism is through their clothing. Students cannot freely express themselves in any other form without going through school officials first (ACLU).
A uniform is a standard set of clothes that is worn by a group of people. These people may be members of an organization or a group of people having the same ideas. There are thousands of kinds of uniforms in the world worn by people, such as police officers, firefighters, doctors, lawyers, security guards, and even fast-food restaurant workers. School uniforms are a controversial issue in schools today. Many schools have already adopted a policy mandating school uniforms, while many more are still considering the change. School uniforms create an atmosphere of equality in which the students are able to achieve to their best, while attaining the most out of their education. School uniforms should be mandatory to unite the school community as one, to instil discipline among the student body, and to eliminate distractions that will help students focus more, which in turn will help our society.
