My personality and personal experiences have helped me to decide upon accounting as my chosen major. Before I immigrated to the United States in 2010, I had a small business in China for more than nine years. This experience and my desire to be an entrepreneur taught me the importance of accounting. In order to manage my business well, I attended a course in basic accounting at a local training institute. I come from a traditional Chinese family whose beliefs of girls attaining higher education is beyond the norm. Boys are considered the family treasure and, therefore, are the ones who are supported in their dreams of higher education.
During my studies at Wake Tech Community College, I was thrilled at the classes that I was able to take and am enjoying the knowledge I have acquired and how it has opened my mind. I often reflect upon how privileged I am as a new immigrant that, at my age, I can sit in the same classroom with other students who are much younger than me enjoying the same knowledge. I truly appreciate this country and its wonderful educational system and feel nothing can stop
