Whitbread is the United Kingdom’s largest hotel and restaurant chain and it operates market­leading

corporations in the budget sectors, owning well­known brands, such as Costa Coffee, Brewers Fayre,

Premier Inn, Beefeater, Table Table and Taybarns. The company’s vision being to become the most

customer­based company in the world, having 40,000 committed and confident employees and nine million

customers per month in over 2000 stores around the country.

Technological performance is based on web analytic platforms which help a business’ performance on a

Technological features implemented by Whitbread in hotels are:

­air source heat pump for heating and cooling, which in comparison to the traditional gas­fired boiler and

conventional chiller, is high co­efficient of performance with lower overall carbon emission;

­heat recovery ventilation units are used for the bedrooms and restaurants and non­openable windows in

order to retain energy within the building;

­ south facing windows with solar shadows to reduce cooling;

­optimisation of energy efficiency and wastage minimization, use of light fittings with low energy and LEDs

lamps where possible and presence detection on corridors, staircase, etc.;

­power control in the guest key card in order to reduce unnecessary power usage;

­green installation for refrigerated goods;

­speed drivers that limit the energy usage within pumps and boosters;

­reduction of fresh potable water consumption through Whitbread’s model of development, Grey Water

Recycling, collecting water from wash hand basins and showers, reusing it in order to create the flushing

process of the toilets;

­low volume flow for reducing water waste.
