Vacation is freedom or release from duty, business, or activity. It is a way to ease one’s mind. Every year millions of people plan vacations miles away from home to get away from reality. But where do most people usually go on vacation? It all depends on the type of vacation one is searching to experience. Libya and the United States both hold many tourist attractions of many sorts. One site holds many historic tourist attractions, and the other has more modern attractions. However, Libya and the United States are quite similar in certain aspects of tourist attractions, such as gorgeous landscapes. Overall, the United States has more to offer when it comes to vacationing.
Libya would be an incredible place to vacation to see historic sites. There are many tourist attractions with an abundance of remnants from the Greek and Roman time periods. These remnants are breathtaking to the point where the site of them nearly takes one back in time. Red Castle is one of the most popular tourist sites in Libya because it has an abundant variety of ancient architecture from several different ancient cultures. Tripoli, which is the capital of Libya and a major tourist attraction, is one of the most historic cities in the world. The majority of Libya’s hotels are also located in Tripoli. These hotels are an immense help to bring money into Libya. Approximately forty miles west of Tripoli is a Roman city, Sabratha which houses artifacts from a third century theater. Leptis Magna is also an ancient Roman city which was established in tenth century B.C. The biggest attraction here is a theater and the Leptis Magna Museum of Leptis Magna. The port-city of Caesarea Maritima and the harbor were built by Herod the Great between 25 and 13 BCE. This new city was built upon an already existing city named Strato’s Tower. Caesarea was the largest of King Herod’s building ventures and was named in honor of his patron, Caesar Augustus. The harbor itself was named Sebastos. Herod had hoped the city would became a center for trade in the Judea province. The new city had many public structures including a vast harbor. Some of these structures included temples to Caesar and Roma, an aqueduct, an amphitheater and forum. Herod paid homage to not only Rome but to his Jewish heritage by being able to merge both cultures in this one city. The ancient city sits between the current cities of Haifa and Tel Aviv in northern Israel. Caesarea’s harbor was the largest harbor constructed of its time and many new technologies were used in its construction. Caesarea Maritima has now become a national park where visitors can walk the runs as well as view the ruins of the harbor which lie in the shallow seas.
“The king triumphed over nature and constructed a harbour…notwithstanding the totally recalcitrant nature of the site, he grappled with the difficulties so successfully, that the solidity of his masonry defiled the sea, while its beauty was such as if no obstacle had existed” (Little 106). In his remarkably detailed account, Josephus describes the exquisiteness and majesty of the harbor of Sebastos in the city of Caesarea Maritima. The harbor was built with such genius and beauty that, despite the complexity of the landscape, the structure seemed effortless. Herod’s great city and harbor have been the epitome of extravagance and daring since the construction of Caesarea up until today as the city still inspires awe in tourists to Israel. Along with its rich history, Caesarea Maritima has an intriguing archaeological past, as well as major biblical ties. All of these aspects of the city contribute to the importance and uniqueness of the ruins of Caesarea Maritima.
When planning a vacation, travelers must first decide where they want to go. Choosing whether to go tropical or not is fun! There are many things that the traveler should waiver when making the decision on his/her destination. Take traveling to Las Vegas vs. the Bahamas. These are two very different places and each will require the right amount of research and assessment on the traveler’s part on as to why they would like to journey there.
The thought of traveling sounds so fun, interesting and spontaneous. The two places I hope to travel to the most are Puerto Rico and Germany. I would like to travel to Puerto Rico because I would love to learn more about the place I was descended from. My reasoning for wanting to travel to Germany is because it’s outside the U.S. I have never been to another country, and I’m curious to see how different it is from here. I also picked two places that are very different from each other, so I could have a total different experience on each trip. The ancient city of Carthage was one of great splendor and magnificence. Carthage thrived on trade throughout the Mediterranean basin. Trade was how their empire was built. Carthage dominated the Mediterranean basin for centuries until another empire began to rise. Rome began to build their empire upon trade as well.
In all of my travels across the United States of America, the `hottest' vacation spot hands down is in Key West, Florida and the `coolest' place to travel to is Denali National Park in Denali, Alaska. These vacation destinations are the two most beautiful and most relaxing places in the nation! I personally have experienced a week of enjoyment at both locations and find myself wanting to go back to each of them in the future because I had such a great time. Even though these are both awesome places to spend a week of vacation time, they differ in weather and climate patterns, they each have unique attractions and activities to do, and both vary in travel costs and various other expenses.
Choosing a vacation destination can be difficult. When deciding a destination there are many things to consider. Two of the most important considerations are the climate, and activities that are available. California is one of the top destinations for many people. California is also known as the “Sunshine State”. The beautiful state has many things to offer for families, couples, and singles. The top places that are visited in Southern California include many amusements and popular site seeing. A few top places are Disneyland, San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Hollywood Boulevard, and Catalina Island. These are a few of the top attractions in Southern California. Ultimately where you choose to visit will be a personal choice.
John F. Kennedy once said, “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable (Good Reads, 2014).” This wise quote sums up the Libyan conflict perfectly. The people of Libya peacefully protested against the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi who violently retaliated and this led to what the world now refers to as the Libyan conflict. This conflict was one of the many that were apart of the chain of uprisings that spread across the Middle East by civilians trying to gain freedom from their governments. These uprisings were known as the Arab Spring. The Arab Spring started in Tunisia when a man set himself on fire in front of a government building in protest to the actions of a policewoman toward him . Egypt, Syria, Yemen, and other nations such as Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco and Oman all had uprisings and protests related to the Arab Spring. The Libyan conflict started in February of 2011 as a result of the brutal rule of Gaddafi toward his people. The violence that the Gaddafi government was committing toward the Libyan people made the world turn against the government. Due to the fact that the rebels were out-gunned and unorganized, the support of the UN Security Council greatly helped them. After eight months of fighting and approximately 25,000 lives lost, Gaddafi was captured and killed and Libya was officially liberated from the absolute dictatorship of Muammar Gaddafi.

Cruise Tourism is niche tourism and it forms a small part of the global tourism industry, according to Dowling (2006). A cruise refers to travelling by sea to undergo a vacation not for transportation reasons or cargo handling. (Mancini, 2004) A vacation taken up through cruising would allow tourists to relax, enjoy the floating paradise of restaurants, casino, swimming pool, indoor gym and other installations on the cruise ship. The cruise ship in this case, would be the destination of the vacation, as tourist would spend all of their time on board, except instances when the ship reaches port and optional activities can be taken up at the port.
Luxor has often been called the “worlds greatest open air museum”, as indeed it is and much more. The number and safeguarding of the monuments in the Luxor area is said to be unparalleled then in any other part of the world. Actually, Luxor is really comprised of three different areas, consisting of the City of Luxor on the East side of the Nile, the town of Karnak just north of Luxor and Thebes, which the ancient Egyptians called Waset, which is on the west side of the Nile across from Luxor. The modern town of Luxor is home to 170,000 people in Egypt today. Luxor is the site of the ancient city of Thebes, which was the capital of Egypt from the 12th dynasty (1991 BC) and achieved its peak during the New Kingdom (1539 BC to around 700 BC). Although the mud brick palaces of Thebes have long disappeared, the stone temples have survived. The temple remained buried beneath the town of Luxor for thousands of years, and was not uncovered until a mosque was built on top of it. Now, the mosque remains an important part of the entire temple.
Libya is a Country located in northern Africa, 90% of Libya’s land is covered by the Sahara Desert. There are no lakes or rivers, all of the country’s water supply is from underground. Libya is one of the largest countries in Africa, but largely due to its vast desert environment, the population is less than most of the other countries. Libya also has no water above ground, everything comes either from the ocean or the underground water systems that irrigate the underside of Libya. Libya’s flag is solid green, the only flag in the world with one colour and design, Libya also has a huge history of religions and cultured as well as some of the oldest architecture on the planet.
In conclusion, Spain is the place to be during vacations and group trips. This is because of the very many beautiful types of scenery and most of all the beaches, which will help you relax your mind away from work and all the stress. Spain has good wines and it will be very memorable visiting the wineries and tasting the wines in order to know which the best brand of wine is.
