Engineering Management is the art and science of controlling activities, planning, directing, allocating resources, organizing activities that have a technological component. They possess ability to apply management tools, engineering principles, and skills in directing technical projects and people in technical jobs. In order to succeed in today’s world the technical manager should adapt to changing business and market conditions. Two third of all engineering spend their professional career as managers in American Society for engineering management. The engineering management degree focuses on the engineer facing challenges in a complex technical environment.
Engineering Management deals with the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design to predict and evaluate the results that are obtained from systems. It deals with the design, installation of integrated systems of equipment, people, material, information and energy by drawing knowledge and skills in mathematical, physical, social sciences etc.
By considering the relationship between management task and engineering plans, the scientific discipline designs and implements the model or develops model for production, research, marketing, finance.
The fusion of Engineering and business principles is called Engineering Management.
The scope of the product and its contribution, advantages, disadvantages can predicted or forecasted by having good knowledge of management and economics.
