The Falling Edgar Allan Poe description of the home immediately conveys the idea that this home is at or near death which will be demonstrated below. is often used to transform a word so that it has a much deeper meaning. Many great authors used symbolism to help strengthen their words and to make their message heard. In the short story “The Fall of the House of Usher” Edgar Allan Poe incorporates the use of symbolism in a number of ways. Poe uses symbolic imagery to portray Usher’s with its decaying trees reflect Usher’s declining health and the progressive decaying family line. By contrast a well kept landscaping reflects a homeowner who is most likely a clean and responsible person who cares about the appearance of their home. When the narrator first comes to the Usher’s mansion he observed that the house looked much different than what was once a graceful mansion.When the narrator finished scanning the mansion he couldn’t fail but notice that the,”fungi overspread the whole exterior,yet all of this was apart from an extraordinary dilapidation”(298).Fungi is a yeast or mold that grows and doesn’t stop growing until it has been exterminated.The fact that there is fungi growing on the house implies that it is dirty and hasn’t been cleaned in long time therefore the fungi has spread all over the entire mansion.The lack of maintenance on the home …show more content…

The decaying House of Usher in the story represents Rodericks’ death. It also represents the death of the Usher family. The author is able to show us that life is full of choices and that each person has their own mindset. We all have those terrible memories we often think about but we shouldn’t focus on the negativity. Instead, we should think positively and move forward with our lives and leave the negative aspects of life behind
