Garth Brooks: Life And Legacy
Garth Brooks is one of the best selling artists in country music. His successes have put him where he is today. None of this came easy. This Oklahoma born and raised artist had to overcome many hardships and obstacles to get to where he is today. His hard work and dedication has brought him much success and many awards and achievements to prove.
Troyal Garth Brooks (well known as Garth Brooks) was born and raised in a small town near Tulsa, Oklahoma on February 7, 1962. He was born the youngest out of five siblings to his parents Troyal and Colleen Carroll Brooks. While growing up, music was not foreign to the family. Every member had some kind of relation to music, whether it be an instrument or singing.
While growing up, Brooks would sing at many family events, catching the attention of everyone who watched him perform. He decided to start his own band while in high school. Garth convinced his friends and some of his family members to make up the members of the band. Their career was cut short, due to the fact that school got in the way.

Unlike other genres of music, country music did not begin until August 1, 1927. On this day in Bristol, Tennessee, Ralph Peer signed Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family to recording contracts for Victor Records. These two acts set the tone for others to follow – Rodgers with his unique singing style and the Carters with their extensive recording of old-time music (Roughstock’s History of Country Music). However, it was not until 1950 when the “Nashville Sound” began. The “Nashville Sound” is defined as a blend of pop and country music. This is the category of country music in which Kenny Chesney falls into.
Almost a year later after Jennings recovery, Johnny Cash gathered Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, and Waylon Jennings together and formed a band. My uncle introduced me to Hootie & the Blowfish when I was younger but I didn’t continue to listen to Darius, that much, until after I heard “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It”. Once I heard that song, I was hooked; I began to look up other songs by him and that is when I realized he was the lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish. Like I mentioned earlier, I prefer his country albums over his rock band albums. It may have to do with the fact that I am a country music lover but I just find myself singing along more and getting into his country music more.
Born on May 26, 1949, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Hank Williams, Jr. used his natural talent for singing to follow in his father’s footsteps. By the age of 8, Hank made his stage debut and made his first appearance at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry at age 11. Then, puberty changed him. Some people are born to become legends, Bruce Springsteen is one of them. From the second he was born and through his younger years everyone knew he was destined for something bigger than a regular nine to five life, they just didn’t realize the magnitude of what was to come. Born into a all around food middle-class family, no on in that house hold even Bruce, didn’t realize that within fifty years he would reach living legend status. Also have a title of one of the best musicians to every live. After working hard at what he loves, Bruce has become known as a musical hero and inspiration to his fans and fellow musicians. With his deep lyrics, amazing stage presence, incredible guitar skills, and his passion, he is an untouchable force in the music industry. Using his lyrics to vent his emotions and past, but to also add awareness to social issues around the world. Bruce and his love for music affected him his whole life, and has shaped into what he is today. His music now affects the world. Rodney Atkins when on the stage as well as off is a true blue patriotic country boy. Singing songs about real life in the country, with some pulling from life experiences both past present, as well as what he sees for our future. His songs are built around his family, something that he has embraced his whole life after being adopted.
Johnny cash was one of the greatest Outlaw country singers of his time. He bridged the gap between rock and country. He even did a cover of a Nine Inch Nails song “Hurt” in 2002 just before his passing. His outlaw persona and electric sound made him appealing to rockabilly, blues folk, country, gospel, and rock lovers everywhere. His music is also as relevant today as it was in the 50’s as seen by the popularity of the movie “Walk the Line” (2005).
Growing up in a rural part of Arkansas taught me that there is two types of people, those who like country music and those who do not. To clear things up, when I say country music I don’t mean musicians like Luke Bryan and Taylor Swift; I mean musicians like Hank Williams, George Jones, Waylon Jennings, and Merle Haggard. Where I am from these are considered to be the classics, making them some of the best examples of country music. Country music is more than just music it is a way of life, which is why there are many things that liking or not liking country music can show about a person.
