Social inequality is a concept that is growing in today’s 21st century. It can be seen at work but as well in education. Recently social inequality has become popular in education. In the article "What’s Causing the Gap?" written in the Los Angeles Times, explains the causes for the achievement gaps in low income communities and high income communities, but as well as deciding whether it is worth trying to close the achievement gap. Another article, "Education Gap between Rich and Poor Is Growing Wider," by Eduardo Porter written in the New York Times, illustrates the idea of why there is a gap in education giving many examples like the neighborhoods they live to the pre-kindergarten they attend. These college-ready schools allow children living in low income communities to get into a school that allows them to prepare for college. It reassures the children that college is the way to go. In the article, “Whats causing the gap?” , it claims “A certainty that low income kids can absolutely achieve high levels just as high as their more affluent peers.” This goes along with what the college-ready schools are trying to achieve and try extra harder to get their students up in the standards. The only problem is that most socioeconomic families are unaware of this type of school but as well parents can believe that they have to pay for these schools. Then again parents place their children in the school they want for their children to go and chose the school that is just by home making it convent. Parents of low income socioeconomic do not realize that the school they are choosing is affecting the child’s education.
