What Is Communication Research
Introduction
In this paper we will be discussing communication research, its purpose, goals, and its desired outcomes. Positivism is also a topic that will be touched on. After reading this paper you will be able to fully understand what communication research is and why people decide to go into the field.

What is communication research?
We can first take a look at the definition of the words communication and research as an individual. Please note that communication is different than communication(s). Communication is defined as messages within many texts according to Treadwell. It is impossible for someone to not communicate. So communication is a process that occurs through all beings. According to Treadwell, Research is the process of asking questions and finding answers. When you put the two together, communication research is the study of human communication. Many times in communication you study symbols that are many times used to produce meaning. There are three main components of communication research according to Donald Treadwell, they include problem posing, problem solving, and peer persuasion. These three components are all touched on during the experimental process.
Describe Communication Research
Furthermore, when going through the process of communication research there are scientific and systematic steps that must be followed in order to produce accurate results. There are multiple ways to do communication research. Those ways include quantitative and qualitative research. Researchers who use the quantitative method of research are more neutral and have less passion when it comes to reporting and the behavior on the group they have studied. On the other had, quali...

...example of this would be the 1932 Tuskegee study or the Tuskegee in Guatemala experiment. Though these two cases were not connected, they were still very still similar to one another. One major ideology of science is positivism. Information that is gathered from experimentation, communication research, and experiences are the most elite source of verifiable information and knowledge.
Conclusion
In conclusion communication research is a field that many researchers enjoy studying. It is a field where you can explore and open the door to many new discoveries. It opens your mind to a new world of questions and answers. The question that I had while completing this paper was, “how do researchers choose what topic they are going to do their research on?” But the question that I leave for you is “what new discovery will you find as a new communication researcher?”

There are two types of research that can be conducted in research studies, these are qualitative and quantitative (Newman, 2011). Qualitative research is a process that uses detailed oriented methodology that tries to achieve a profound knowledge or understanding of specific incident and circumstance, wh...

Communication involves the exchange of messages and is a process which all individuals participate in. Whether it is through spoken word, written word, non-verbal means or even silence, messages are constantly being exchanged between individuals or groups of people (Bach & Grant 2009). All behaviour has a message and communication is a process which individuals cannot avoid being involved with (Ellis et al 1995).
Communication is the most important tool when building relationships. The term “it is not what you say, but how you say it” should be applied to everyday life. As humans we are constantly building relationships whether professional or social. In order to better understand the key components of communication, we will look at the types of feedback, the appropriate channels to be utilized, noise, and context. This information will supply the tools to utilize the communication theory the in order to sustain healthy relationships.

Communication is defined by six characteristics; relies on multiple channels, passes through perpetual filters, people give communication its meaning, communication has literal meanings and relational implications, communication sends a meaning whether intentional or unintentional, and communication is governed by rules. Communication is the process of conveying information to each another using words, actions, or by writing the information down to be read by another person. Communication is something that most people do at some point each day, and is an important part of life especially in a working environment. “The concept of communication is an essential part of every profession, and it is required to foster and maintain healthy relationships”( Jasmine, 2009, para. 1).

Relationships play an important role in everyday life. It is essential for the positive, social and mental development of the people required in the relationship. It starts off with infatuation and goes through several stages. Somewhere along the way the relationship can take a toll and will take the brunt of the fall. It’s a theory that describes how relationships and relational partners change over time. This communication theory research paper will identify the theorist, his educational and professional background, along with other contributions that he has made. It will define the theory and explain it using tangible examples. Finally, I will describe what I have learned from my research.

Theories of Communications, is a course that allowed me to further gain a far better perspective and has also broadened my understanding and knowledge of some of the major theories. I appreciate the fact, that during the course of the semester, this class really did an admirable job introducing me to a variety of well known and widely studied theories in the communication feild. One of the biggest things I took out of this class, was how the class impled me to learn how to apply some of the theories to my life in a practical way through some of the class activities, readings, group work, presentations, and assignments. In the following paper, there will be three main things I will be covering. I will start off by introducing all members of my family, and describing a little bit about them individually. I will then be talking about the five theories I selected that I can applyto myself and my family. I will then describe each of the five theories, give an example of my own families experiance that aplies to the theories, and give an analysis of the experiance using the theory. And lastly, I will share with you my conclucion, which will conclude basically all of the things that I learned through writing this paper.
