Eating Disorder Eating disorder a disease that affects more than thirty million United States citizens. Eating disorder is defined as any range of psychological disorders characterized by abnormal or disturbed eating habits. Eating disorders are categorized as mental illnesses where there is an unhealthy relationship with food. People with eating disorders often struggle with body image and disruption in their normal activities with unusual eating habits to alter their appearance. Eating disorders can be passed down genetically. Only ten percent of the human population seek help for their eating disorder. There are many different types of eating disorders. Binge eating disorder affects all ages and can be passed down genetically. People with binge eating disorder consume excessive amounts of food in a single setting. During periods of binge eating one begins to experience a lack of control over their eating. After consuming large meals he or she experiences shame and guilt. Binge eating is very dangerous and threatening to one's health. Often times binge eating is left untreated.
