The human experience comes from a unique sense of self development through an individual’s efforts to gain knowledge as well as experiencing all ranges of emotion. The most resplendent quality within people is each ‘flawed’ personality that differentiates from one person to the next while all people, though each his or her own, strive towards the advancement of their own selves. In Brave New World, Aldous Huxley takes this concept and runs with a satirical, anti-humane theme in which the core foundations and principles of humanity are stripped and flipped around as though each one is pointless. The emotional connection between two individuals that would normally develop from a sexual relationship is replaced by using sex as a means purely for entertainment. Monogamy is considered “such horribly bad form” (41) whereas sleeping around is “the strictest conventionality” (42). Because procreation has become distinct amongst those who are not Savages, sex has become more of a commonplace activity. When Lenina asks Henry “where [he] found that lovely green morocco-surrogate cartridge belt [he] gave [her],” (78), aka her contraceptive container which she proudly shows to the public rather than concealing privately, Huxley demonstrates the lack of any connection between sex and any kind of deep emotion. While on the tour of baby manufacturing incorporated with the director, any student who dared asked a question out of curiosity is shut down and harassed over asking a question.
