Animal endangerment is a very prominent problem in the world today. This is because the world is plagued by poaching and habitat loss still even though poaching is illegal, and habitat loss shouldn’t happen anymore due to a myriad of laws. With tigers it is worse because of how valuable they are to the world. Tigers are one of the most endangered species in the world, and they are very essential for everything they contribute to their habitat and their ecosystem.
Reasons are always needed in understanding why some things happen as they do. With that in mind, Tigers are hunted for many reasons. The Chinese whom use the tiger for their medical uses do not try to kill many tigers, but the killings of tigers started to get out of control in the 20th century when Tigers were sought out because it would be a great honor to kill a tiger. But it was not always for that. The tigers were also killed due to angry villagers. The tigers would kill the livestock to feed themselves and of course the villagers would become angry about it. It is obvious that humans would see tigers as a threat because of their sheer size, as they are the largest felines in the world, so they would have to hunt them for safety. But, there is a point where tiger hunting needs to stop. That point is when, in the mid 1900’s, the population of tigers plummeted from over 100,000 to now 3,200 wild tigers. That is a 95% drop in the population in at least 60 years which is a staggeringly high number for a relatively short period of time. The relief is that there are more than 5000 tigers in captivity in the U.S. alone, so the population is on the rise up and for the better. This brings around the worst reason tigers are hunted; poaching. Poaching, regardless of the laws prohibiting it and the awareness campaign’s for it, still happens much too often in the world today.
