Amuse Society is the brain child of two pioneers of industry, Mandy Fry and Summer Rapp, who are getting its customers fresh young modern beach lifestyle brand which they describe in their words as, "channels a rock muse on a beach holiday. Defined as a stunning contradiction of beach and street and bohemian and rock and roll, their free spirited confidence and entrepreneurial skill is what eventually inspired them to found their first brand jointly in November 2014. Amuse Society is a brand creating a new compilation of clothing that bring fashion with individual styles. Collette Dinnigan’s designs possess an elegant, soft and ethereal sensation reflecting her individual style and ultimately resulting in her worldwide success. Her are designs for all ages from infant through to bridal wear and established her self-titled label, Collette Dinnigan in 1990. She is well known for her lingerie and bridal wear which has featured in Vogue magazine. Dinnigan’s garments are carefully hand-made in Sydney, Australia; according to Dinnigan “The product itself is not necessarily about a new shape each season; it’s much more about the detail to me. It’s all about the intricacy of the work, the quality of the workmanship. The story setting takes place at a market where Sammy and his fellow co-worker witness three women come in and captivate their attention. The most beautiful girl, named “Queenie”, truly gets Sammy’s attention. The three girls were wearing nothing but bathing suits, which leads to the the manager causing a scene at the register. The narrator is so upset that the manager acted harshly towards the women that he quits on the spot and walks out of the market. Psychological barriers created by experience dictate one's attitude ultimately limiting their perception of the world. The attitudes of others can thrust unwanted experiences on one, ultimately altering and damaging their capability to make choices in relation to where they situate their sense of self. Jane Harrison’s Rainbows End, a play about how the ignorance of Anglo-Saxon society in Australia inhibits and challenges an Aboriginal family to find where they belong in society and Edgar Allen Poe’s Alone, a poem that addresses differences in how one views the world and how they make sense of where they belong in it. Both of these texts utilize various techniques that allow us to see how the attitudes of others reduce one’s sense of belonging.
Today we can see items of clothing that are commonly worn that have grown out of this initial innovation of freeing a woman’s body. Gish Jen’s In the American Society is, on the surface, an entertaining look into the workings of a Chinese American family making their way in America. The reader is introduced to the life of a Chinese American restaurant owner and his family through the eyes of his American-born daughter. When we examine the work in depth, however, we discover that Jen is addressing how traditional Chinese values work in American culture. She touches on the difference in gender roles, generation gaps between immigrants and their American-born children, and the hesitance of these immigrants to conform to the American way of life.
