What does it mean to be human?

Humans have been the dominating species for as long as we know. Following Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, we have the notion that humans were the species that evolved from the apes. Through old investigations conducted in lands towards the south where theoretically, the first humans mostly resided, we find the remains of the stone tools made by the older humans. Ash from fire and glue-like substances or rope which may have been used to tie the stones together to create the tools have also been found. This shows how innovative and developmental humans really are. But what is it that separates us from the rest of flora and fauna? What is it that makes us unique compared to all the other species?

Why are humans that important? The sole purpose of this is because the curios nature of humans has driven us to inquire more about who we are and where we come from. We have also been learning about how to use the “claim-testers”, methods by which to decipher if claims and theories put forward can are conceivable or not. Throughout this essay, I too will try to put forward evidence and some of my inputs regarding certain statements that have been put forward by scientists.
Communication, between any kinds of organisms is crucial for development. As we have seen, humans are said to have evolved society using farming. But would the ideas of the changes that were done such as development of the plough or spade, be possible without the communication between humans? Probably not. That is why, we believe that language, along with playing an important part in our lives, is one of the reasons why we are different from other organisms. But what is language?
