In The Crucible by Arthur Miller John Proctor and Abigail Williams are alone together and we learn of the affair between them. This can be seen when Abigail begs for soft words to be said to be spoken to her. Since Abigail Williams is motivated by lust, her ability to make precise decisions in the court deteriorate. In act I, Abigail Williams tries to make Proctor remember about their past by repeatedly reminding about the affair. She says tauntingly “you come five miles to see a silly girl fly? I know you better”(22). By saying this it makes John feel guilty about what he has done and instead pushes him further away rather than getting him to fall for her again, making her goal further to reach as a whole.
