Stratford Studies. Family Diversity What is Family? In this essay, I am going to try to explain what family is and what is family diversity in east London. I am going to address this in a few paragraphs also considering different types of families, ethnicities, cultures and sexual orientation. I will also be briefly explaining the immigration impact in east london and how this links to family diversity. • What is family diversity in East London. In human society, a family is a group of people affiliated either by recognized birth, marriage, relationship or co-residence. An immediate family may include spouses, parents, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters. Members of the extended family will include grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and siblings-in-law, these could also be included in the immediate family depending on an individual’s relationship with them. East London is a popular and informally defined part of London, capital of the United Kingdom, lying east of the ancient city and north of the river Thames. East London holds the whole of six modern London Boroughs – Tower Hamlets, Newham, Waltham Forest, Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge, Havering and the greater part of a seventh Hackney. The East End of London consists of areas close to the ancient city of London. There are many …show more content…
There are many sociological reasons for family diversity this could be because there are a high impact of migrants living in east London and many different ethnic groups of families. Every ethnic group come with different values and family teachings, different culture different rules and this could mean different households on the same street. In East London, you will hardly have just one ethnic group of families on one street. Kids grow up being friends with different types of kids and learn new things from their friends. Cultural appreciation should be high in east London but also a lot of
Assessing the View that Family Diversity is Leading to a Weakening of Traditional Family Values
In America today the phrase "melting pot" is shown through television, films, music, and art. Diversity is big and is very important to the American people, this is why I have chosen the popular television show "Modern Family" as my focal point. This is a comedy with a family full of diversity in all shapes and forms. This show has a man who gets married to a woman who is Latina, he already has two children which his daughter is the same age as his new wife. The daughter of the man has a husband, two daughters, and a son. His other child is a gay man who is married and has an Asian daughter which they adopted. It is obvious to see that this family is full of variety from gender, age, ethnicity, and even sexual preference. This hints why this
The article “The Modern Definition of Family” by Alexandra Temblador published on January 7, 2015, from the website thenextfamily.com, gives multiple examples of the different kinds of families. Some of her examples are shown in the film such as families being diverse, families being a certain size, and how families are not blood related (Temblador). Temblador suggests that we should redefine family “as a close-knit unit of individuals joined together without distinction to race/ethnicity, biology, sexual orientation, age, generation, or presence in households, cemented through one common characteristic: love.”
Few Industries have built or for that matter expanded in an Inner-city location partly due to the environment, which surrounds it. Social Inequalities also play a part in British City the following characteristics are often present in many of them: Lack of basic amenities, many houses of which lack any sort of bathroom Overcrowding- large families may live in small houses, or families may live in poorly built high rise flats. On the whole we can say that there are high infant mortality and death rates Families have a low income Single parent families. There are also the environmental problem which affect
Every person comes from a unique family despite of race. I come from a low income family and from Mexican parents who lack a complete education. Despite of their educational status, they are still wise and know their morals to guide me in life. My family sets an example for me since they are all supportive and hard workers which encourages me to be the same. Ever since I started elementary school, I struggled through all school subjects because I didn't speak English since my first language was Spanish. My parents helped me through these struggles the best they can. As I saw them struggling, something triggered inside of me that made me work harder to ease the stress my parents had in helping me. They always support my decisions and encourage
...relative by blood or marriage. It means the people who accept you no matter who you are without no animosity and judgment. The love of a family should be unconditional, and everyone should try their best to provide all they can for the people in their family, emotionally and financially. Family are the people that everyone deserves to feel secure, and comfortable with, even if they aren't lucky enough to have that. Everything people learn comes from the way their family brought them up, and therefore, everything you are is because of your family. Family are the people that everyone deserves to feel secure, and comfortable with, even if they aren't lucky enough to have that. It does not matter if they are your blood relatives; if they have been there for you all their life, and will be there for you unconditionally for the rest of your life, then they are your family
Family does not only mean “mother” or father” a group of family is people that may be made up of aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. A good definition of family is a group of people sharing common ancestors. Family shares the same household; they all live together as one. Family is a social group in society typically containing of one or two parents and their children. A respectable family is called a nuclear family as this consists of both parents and their children, nuclear family is seen as the healthy family as this is the way it should be.
In a world where society is mostly driven by our faults, family can be a relative term that brings it all back down to earth. Since societies can be extremely divided at times, it is important to have a back bone and a community that understand your own values, customs, and practices. It has been said that “minority group” families, which in Canada or the United States, could be considered anyone who isn’t Caucasian, are less stable in form and function than families who are a part of the general societal “majority”. Throughout this essay, I would like to discuss how untrue this statement is. From racial and cultural differences, to relying on each other and to growing as a unit, it is evident that minorities can have an even stronger relationship than those from the majority.
Family, a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. Although family is a concretely defined term, the idea of family varies from person to person. But, what makes a family? For those who are surrounded by loving blood relatives, for those who have never known the one to grant them life, for those who have left their blood behind for a more loving and nurturing environment, what can commonly define a family? Family is something defined by the individual. Family includes those who you have come to love, whether platonically or romantically, those you have suffered with, those you have come to respect, and most importantly those you have cared for and in turn have cared for you. To one that could mean people who
A family might include anyone related by blood or by adoption such as: step parents, grandparents acting as parents, and even brothers and sisters sharing the same household. However, worldwide “the family is regarded as the most ba...
The sociological definition of the family is “a set of people related by blood, marriage or some other agreed-upon relationship, or adoption, who share the primary responsibility for reproduction and caring for members of society” (Schaeffer, 2009, p. 288). While the nuclear family (a man, a woman, and their children) was once the primary definition of family, now it refers to many familial configurations. Single-parent families, blended families, same-sex couples, traditional nuclear families and single-parents who have adopted are just a few of the configurations that society in general now views as a family. A healthy family will provide a place of unconditional love, acceptance and support.
When the word “family” is discussed most people think of mothers, fathers, and other siblings. Some people think of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even cousins and more on the pedigree tree. Without family in people 's lives they would not be the same people that they grew up to be today and in the future. When people hear the word family they think about, the ones who will help them in any way they can whether it 's money, support, advice, or anything to help them succeed in life. Family will forever be the backbone of support. They are the ones who support their children during those life decisions. Family is not always blood related. Finally family is forever, family will never go away.
Family is defined by the text as “two or more persons living together and linked for financial or emotional support” (Barbour, Barbour & Scully, 2011). For my purposes family is defined as those with whom I maintain a close bond, whether or not they live with me. For example, I have a brother, who might be defined as :family” as we were raised in the same house, but I also have friends that I consider “family” based on emotional support I derive from their friendship.
Family is the most important thing in the world a single word, with many different meaning. As the backbone of society family plays an important role in who an individual can be. The family can determine the class of an individual, the education level, and their religion. There are different types of families that have existed and some that are still present today. In the past the nuclear family was the ideal model. The nuclear family also called domesticity is characterized as, women being responsible for keeping the home and children and men being the breadwinner. It is two adults living together in a household with their own or adopted children. Another type of family is the extended family. The extended family is defined as a family group consisting of more than two generation of relatives living either within the same household or very close to one another. Grandparents, aunts, and in-laws are examples of extended families.
Family is arguably the most important social institution in an individual's life. A family is defined as a group of individuals that are related through blood ties, adoption or marriage, that form an economic unit, where the adult members are responsible
