In life people need to be able to communicate their individualism. Music is a universal language, and human individuality has created countless different genres to communicate their own beliefs and personality’s. While looking at all the artists in all the different genres and the people who listen to them, it is very easy to see how many different kinds of people exist in the world. Every genre has things to make them unique, certain stereotypes that types of music tend to carry. Rock has the non-conformist rebels who listen to music that really means something to them; pop is associated with a large group of teenage girls swooning over the latest boy group, rap with large amounts of money being spent on women, drugs, and alcohol, Country with its nostalgic description of what life is like outside of the concrete jungle. By far the most popular genre of music, pop is considered to be nothing but a large amount of unoriginal music, performed by sellouts, and is nothing but a moneymaking ploy. I believe this not to be true. Just because they are a genre that makes more money, and is less concerned with the social statement side, does not mean that they don’t care about the music they play. While there are sellouts in the world, music is a reflection of the soul and there are plenty of pop musicians who perform music because they enjoy it more than they enjoy money. It’s the ones that can start without money, and not let their music be affected when they have it that are the real artists. The people who listen to it are just normal people who maybe aren’t as concerned with music meaning something as much as just having a good time while listening to it, when in the end is the whole reason music exists in the first place.
