In this section, Duckworth examines the middle point between individualism and traditional social conventions. The change in Elizabeth’s thinking and views on society and herself are dissected. As well, the change in Darcy’s views of society are studied. Duckworth brings together these two opposing views and discusses how different social classes are able to come together when there is compromise on either side and when the opinions of others are disregarded. This is an excellent source for this term paper. Specifically, the exploration of the relationship between the individual and society is examined. Different views on marriage are discussed, such as marrying for social and economical benefits vs marrying for own personal taste. Looking at Elizabeth’s and Darcy’s views on marriage, Paris studies the obstacles that stand in the way of the relationship between the two. The information from this source is applicable to my term paper because I will be discussing the barriers that prevent Elizabeth and Darcy’s relationship from prospering. Expanding on the idea of their relationship, I will be using the information to help discuss why Elizabeth’s and Darcy’s character flaws are a reason for the initial division between the two. Additionally, I will be using this information to help with dissecting their relationship and closely examining how the two are able to overcome their differences and form a union together. This section discusses the stages of mortification and renewal that both Elizabeth and Darcy undergo. Using examples from the text about the couple, Tave is able to show how the two of them are both humiliated not only by other people, but by each other. However in the end both Elizabeth and Darcy are able to overcome their mortification, and this then allows them to finally obtain happiness with each …show more content…
