West Virginia, My Home
Where is home? Home is West Virginia, where spring flowers grow, summer nights are cool and calm, and fall leaves change colors as they blow across the ground. The three things I love most about West Virginia is the beautiful seasons, the recreational activities, and the fact that all my family live here. West Virginia is a recreational state, filled with beautiful seasons and strong family values.
The number one reason I love West Virginia is because all my family lives here. Moving away would mean missing out on those Sunday lunches at grandmas’, and the annual holiday gatherings. My family is a close knit family who enjoy spending time together even though we do argue. West Virginia as a whole prides itself on their strong family values. I as a West Virginia citizen, have adopted these family values and could never leave the people and state I love the most.
The number two reason I love West Virginia is the fun recreational activities it has to offer. In the spring I can go watch a baseball game, or take a relaxing walk through the beautifully flowered gardens. In the summer I may enjoy a soothing swim, or white water raft down the New River. Also in the fall I can walk through Grandview State Park and see the various colors of the leaves. After my walk I could stop by the theater and take in a production of Annie. These are just a few of the recreational activities that I enjoy every year in West Virginia.
The third reason I love West Virginia is because we are blessed with a variety of seasons. These beautiful seasons include; spring, summer, fall, and winter. In the spring I love to watch nature as life renews itself all around me. In the summer I love the warm weather as I take a dip in the calm lake. During the fall I love to watch the leaves change colors as I walk through the woods.
...ther’s family came from England to Port Tobacco Maryland and later moved south to what is now Harrison County, West Virginia. Reflections of the past make me thankful that my ancestors took the risk and hardships to let me have a better life and the opportunities that I have today.
Although West Virginia is mostly frowned upon, its positive side is key to many parts the nation, from people to places to things. One of the stand-out athletes that have come from West Virginia is the famous football player named Sam Huff. As you can see, modern celebrities and historical figures have both came from West Virginia. All the listed people are highly respected and honored nationwide and known around the world. To be respected, you have to have respect for other and while growing up in West Virginia, I have learned that when you come from a small town, you seem to have a different perspective on everyday life.
For instance, Dally did not have much to live for. No family that loved him except for Johnny, just a couple of Old’ friends. He already has a police record, because of how is is so disobedient to the laws. The only fun in Dallys life was picking up girls and finding some new ways to break the law. He never cared for anyone but Johnny, and once Johnny had died that was the end. Dallas did not know how else to handle himself. When Darry got the phone call Ponyboys thoughts scattered then came to a conclusion, “But I knew that was what he wanted, even as the lot echoed with the cracks of the shots, even as I begged silently please, not him… not him and Johnny both - I knew he would be dead, because Dally Winston wanted to be dead and he always got what he wanted”(154). Like Pony said, Dally always got what he wanted and he definitely did. Once Johnny died he did not care about anything in life. Conversely, Johnny had a lot to live for. He is only sixteen years old and he has a lot ahead of him. Johnny was very law abiding he tried hard not to get into any trouble or break any laws. Now that he has made that mistake with Bob he thinks he has ruined his whole life. He has not, there is much more ahead of him. Johnny had died a hero by saving all those kids at the burning church. Before we ponder in the exquisite Appalachian cultural practices and beliefs, let us know more about its geographic region. “Appalachia is a 205,000-square-mile region that follows the spine of the Appalachian Mountains from southern New York to northern Mississippi. It includes all of West Virginia and parts of 12 other states: Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia” (The Appalachian Region paragraph 1) . Appalachia is the name of a Spanish empire that was drilling for gold and plunders (Williams 19). It is considered the second largest mountains of North America (Brescia 40). The Appalachian towns that include the mines have its own fascinating history. Appalachia is a place that you can visit in all seasons and each season has its unique spirit and mood. One similarity Dally and Johnny share is their inability to place value in their own lives. Through the duration of the story, Dally continually does things that put his life in danger, and does not seem to care about the consequences. Although some would believe that racial profiling does not occur and if it does it is used to keep the society safe, it is more correct to say that it disrespects and mistreats innocent citizens. More and more people are being stopped each year for crimes they did not commit and being singled out because of their race. Being racially profiled, harassed and mistreated is something that Latinos, Asians and African Americans go through every day. I believe that people should not be stopped and judged because of physical appearance. This is something that takes away ones individual’s rights and is very disrespectful.
The Bluegrass is a unique region. Not only because of the history of the region, but the culture, the land, the vegetation, and the animals are what makes this place unique. When you hear the term “Bluegrass” you would think that the grass would be blue, however that is not the case. The Bluegrass is actually all green, the reason why it is called the Bluegrass is that when the grass grows out long enough, you would be able to see a blue tent in it(Bluegrass). Even though a lot of people do not see that tent of blue because people mow their lawns and it is hard to tell, that is why Kentucky is nicknamed “The Bluegrass State”. The Bluegrass Region is a very attractive place to go to because of the landscape and the attractions the place has.
In the United States of America today, racial profiling is a deeply troubling national problem. Many people, usually minorities, experience it every day, as they suffer the humiliation of being stopped by police while driving, flying, or even walking for no other reason than their color, religion, or ethnicity. Racial profiling is a law enforcement practice steeped in racial stereotypes and different assumptions about the inclination of African-American, Latino, Asian, Native American or Arab people to commit particular types of crimes. The idea that people stay silent because they live in fear of being judged based on their race, allows racial profiling to live on.

She was then jailed and striped searched for more than four hours and she didn’t even know what was happening, much less did they explain what she was being withheld for. All because she was racially profiled for her ethnic background, which is 50% Jewish and 50% Arabic. Everyday people are pulled over for speeding, and broken tail lights, but does it become an issue when law enforcement start pulling people over for no reason. Racial Profiling, while sometimes used inappropriately, can sometimes be a good thing because it can help cut down on illegal immigrants, drug trafficking, and help prevent terrorism. Many issues arise regarding legal immigrants and non-legal immigrants in quiet neighborhoods nationwide. Racial profiling has been increasing for many years, from the 1500’s up to present time.
The world around us is amazingly beautiful, but if one ever wanted to experience the most beautiful part they would have to take a trip to Hawaii. Hawaii has the most relaxing climate, in perfect temperatures year round. Hawaii is the most beautiful island with must see attractions, and has flora and fauna that cannot be experienced anywhere else in the world. It is a family friendly location and one of the safest states in the United States. The culture is amazing and the people on the island are friendly and welcoming. There are so many once in a lifetime activities to do while in Hawaii. Hawaii is different than any other location in the United States, Hawaii is the perfect destination. Besides the fact Hawaii is full of beauty and breathtaking sights, there are so many fun activities to do on the island and the culture is something to be experienced.
“Home is where love resides, memories are created, friends always belong, and laughter never ends (Robot check).” A place becomes a home for me when I am around all the things that I enjoy and love. For example, when I am around everyone that I love, I enjoy a peaceful environment and the beautiful landscapes around me. The interpretation of home for me is not a physical thing that I see or that I can remember or even certain thoughts that I can relate, but it is a sensation that overcomes me when I envision being in the comfort of my own home. However, I know that this is a feeling that is calming to my soul and it quietly reassures me that I genuinely belong in a place where I can be free from people constantly judging me.
