The second closed reading was an analysis of a relationship between characters from The Piano Lesson by August Wilson. In the first draft of this paper, my biggest problem was the thesis. I failed to truly argue a thesis. I stated one but did not elaborate on what I meant. This caused my analysis to be vague and not arguable. The purpose of this lab was to to cycle solid copper through a series of chemical forms and return it to its original form. A specific quantity of copper undergo many types of reactions and went through its whole cycle, then returned to its solid copper to be weighted. We observed 5 chemical reactions involving copper which are: Redox reaction (which includes all chemical reactions in which atoms have their oxidation state changed), double displacement reaction, precipitation reaction, decomposition reaction, and single displacement reaction.
Cause-and-effect diagrams are charts that identify potential causes for particular quality problems. They are often called fishbone diagrams because they look like the bones of a fish. A general cause-and-effect diagram is shown in Figure . The “head” of the fish is the quality problem, such as damaged zippers on a garment or broken valves on a tire. The diagram is drawn so that the “spine” of the fish connects the “head” to the possible cause of the problem. These causes could be related to the machines, workers, measurement, suppliers, materials, and many other aspects of the production process. Each of these possible causes can then have smaller “bones” that address specific issues that relate to each cause.

Long story short, let me be honest and say that the longer essay stapled to the back of this one is the one I wrote first, because I read the instructions wrong. I thought I would attach that paper also and turn it in, since I took the time to write it, and finished it before realizing it was not what you were looking for. It does, however, relate to this paper, because in this paper I will (indirectly) give the reasons why I wanted to write that paper in the first place.
Shorter, more concise sentences clarify complex ideas (Grellier & Goerke, 2015). This is the area my academic writing needs the most work. Good writing is writing that achieves its purpose by conveying the ideas in the mind of the writer to the mind of the reader with minimum confusion, distortion, and delay. In addition to the KISS principle proposed by Grellier & Goerke, (2015) I also want to focus on the ‘six Cs’ suggested by Hay, Bochner & Dungey, (2002) who state good functional writing uses the six Cs – clear, complete, concise, considerate, concrete and correct. They do however go on to state you must make your writing as accessible as possible without sacrificing depth of content or shades of meaning. I will measure my improvement

Evaluating my distant analysis essays to my most present essays; I have noticed a tremendous amount of of improvement in my writing. My vocabulary has increased with intellectual diction; I have expand my analyzing skills. I retain more knowledge of consisting a flowing satisfactory sentence structure.

First, before I get into my discussion let me just say WOW I can't believe this is our last assignment in this course! Now getting on with it, I progressed the most in my writing. From the very first to the very last discussion, I believe through each week I have progressively gotten better in this area. Each week before I sat down to write my discussion, I would look at the previous rubric to see what I could improve that week , and I would begin crafting my discussion. I would then reread the paper a few times, and correct anything I missed. I have grown into a much better writer since the start of this class. I am very happy with the progress I have made, and will continue to get better over time.
