. He even holds onto this hope when he dies, which was the one thing of Gatsby’s that no one could understand or rationalize. However, the way that Gatsby gets the rest of his wealth was through a foundation of lies and corruption, which gets him the large house and expensive things all around. His personality and personal history end up getting invented while he is getting his money from the bootlegging that he is involved in, but he justifies this to himself because he does all of this reunite with Daisy where they can leave and live the life that they envisioned for themselves during the war and before Gatsby disappeared. On the other hand, the people of East Egg were a part of the “old” money, they all come from families that have money, and are more conservatively dressed and tend to part take in older traditions such as polo and other house back games. Gatsby was a part of the “new” money, but he wanted to be a part of the “old” money. He tried to do this with his the way that he speaks, along with his actions of what he thinks that the people of East Egg and the old money would do. However, there is no amount of acting that he can do that will convince that he is a part of the “old” money, because it is evident that he is not through the color of clothing that he wears, such as the pink suit. Gatsby tells everyone who asks that he is an Oxford man, meaning that he went there for school and graduated from there. This would put him with those people of East Egg who all went to other high class schools, but during his dinner party with Tom and Daisy, he loses his temper. This clearly shows that he was not what he says he is. He is not a gentleman who was raised by wealthy parents in a wealthy household. He is not an Oxford man and is not a part of the “old” money that was born into wealth, instead he is a part of the “new” money who bootlegged their way to the status
